    Tandem kickstand

Which kickstand do you prefer for your tandem -- Pleischer or Clickstand -- and why?

We've been using the click-stand and have been happy with it. No experience with the Pleischer. The best thing about the click-stand is the wide "stance" you form with it. I watched my old touring bike tumble over too many times because the narrow stance of a traditional bike stand. The only down side of the click-stand is figuring the best way to transport it. We've been tossing ours in a bag under the pilot's saddle.

We have never had a kickstand on any of our 5 tandems; been riding tandem since 1975.
There is usually a place to lean the bike against (tree, fence, bike rack, wall); if nothing is available/suitable, then just lay the tandem down (derailleur side up), that way it has no chance of falling down!
    Just our insight/experience.

Haven't used the clickstand, but I have Pletscher/ESGE twin-legged kickstands on both my triple and my tandem. I like them so much I even paid $100+ to have Bilenky braze custom kickstand plates on both.

We don't use a kick stand, although I do use a piece of velcro around the front break lever to act as a parking break, this makes the bike very stable when leaned against something. I looked at the Pletscher/ESGE but it doesn't look like I have enough room between the tire & chain stays to mount either one.

I use a click stand on our Cannondale tandem and the twin legged esge on our Bike Friday tandem. The Esge is more stable and hold the bike more vertical. Stoker can really rummage around in the bags without knocking the bike over. It is also very quick to deploy--just push down with your toe while lifting the back of the bike a little. The stand works fine on the BF, but will not work on all tandems as there are cables routed where the stand needs to go. The click stand weighs way less. We carry it in a velcro strap designed for a pump under the stoker stem. It is surprisingly stable also.

The bottom line on these two stands for me is I prefer the lighter click stand just because it is lighter and because a conventional stand won't work on the 'Dale. If it will fit and weight is not an issue the Esge is very stable and convenient.

I was going to order a ClickStand but they are closed. They are off on a cycling trip.

We have a "custom" extra-long stoker stem (probably 12", with a "normal stem" at the aft end to get the stoker bars up further). Our click stand fits happily atop the stoker stem, with the U facing back and nestled against the "normal stem". We use a "ball bungee" to hold the CS to the stem tube. It works well, with the exception that sometimes the stoker puts the bungee too far aft, giving little lateral support, and allowing the stand to slide left/right and end up in the way of my legs. A quick request over the Tandem-Com and my problem goes away.

+1. We always take this on large organized rides where the 1/2-bikes tend to take up all the "good spots"

The maker sells directly from http://www.click-stand.com/

He's on a bike tour right now, I believe. At any rate the shop is closed until June 16. (But explore the site anyway; it'll help you make the right decision and it's packed with great photographs.)
