Upgrades for my Trek Navigator 2.0 (2010)

I'm looking to upgrade my Trek Navigator and I'm just wondering what you would all do with a stock bike knowing the following:

    1. I'm 33 yrs old 155lbs 6'0"
    2. I ride 95% of my time on a dedicated paved path (hilly but paved)

I am thinking about picking up new tires to try and gain some speed since mine are kind of wide. Does anyone have any specific tire suggestions that would fit my needs? I just feel slow and heavy on my bike right now.

What about other things that are good upgrades for this bike in my situation?

Looking at the bike http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes...ve/navigator20 being realistic, unless you threw a lot of money at it, it will be hard to get it to weigh less, that would mean replacing most of the bike, and getting a replacement would probably be cheaper.

Tires are an easy upgrade, just because they are wide doesn't mean they need to be slow, but again, cost, good wide fast tires like Schwalbe Marathon Dureme HS 410 http://www.schwalbetires.com/bike_ti...arathon_dureme will nice and fast, but at a price.

The schwalbe tires look nice but would I be better off going with these tires that are just as wide as the ones I have now but are faster or would I be better off going not as wide? And how do I know what size tires will fit on my wheels?

Would 700x35 fit on bontrager 550 36 hole wheels?

No, they will not fit. You need 26" tires.
Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're probably right

Realistically, if you want speed, you should get another bike. Your biggest hindrance to speed is your riding position and all the drag your body creates.

Your bike is designed with comfort as the primary goal. You are better off with a different bike like the FX series or similar.

Something you could try is lowering the bars to be even with the height of the seat and rotate the bars if need be so the controls are not at a weird angle. That Would put you in a more aerodynamic position for starters.

I had a Trek 7300 and upgraded to a 7.3 FX. The 7300 was just to slow. Nice comfort bike. I wanted speed and to ride farther. Cheaper to upgrae the bike and sell what you have now.
