I have a Kona Jake cross bike which I also use for commuting... I'd like to get a rack and a grocery bag style pannier...
Since I don't intent to put anything 'on top' I understand there are 'thin' variants that more efficient for panniers.
Can someone suggest something specific, preferably off Amazon.com.... There are so many and I can't tell which are thin, which fit my bike, etc, etc...
Tubus makes a number of thin rear racks. In particular, the Fly, Luna, and Vega are "thin" They are expensive, but they are really nice. Dunno if you can get them from Amazon though
I can recommend the Tubus fly. It's thin and very minimal, but very strong. I like mine a lot but, they are pretty expensive. http://www.tubus.com/product.php?xn=9
I don't know if your Jake has rear eyelets for mounting, but Tubus makes an adapter that goes in your wheel skewer. http://www.tubus.com/product.php?xn=33
