Pre '78 Huret dropouts had a derailleur stop at the 4:00 position, while Campagnolo dropouts placed the stop at 7:00:
The 7:00 stop position became the defacto industry standard as used by Shimano, Suntour, etc. from the early-'70s to the present, and even Huret finally adopted it in '78.
To compensate for this Schwinn used a special tabbed washer when mounting Suntour VGT-Luxe derailleurs to those dropouts ('77-'78 Superior) as seen in the parts catalog diagram below (#14). That "Special bracket for Schwinn" worked with the Schwinn modified Huret dropout in order to make it match the Campagnolo (and now defacto) standard.
You can see a post showing pictures of that special tabbed washer
here, and a home-made alternative adapter
here and
here.
It should be fairly easy to make a copy of the Schwinn adapter out of a stainless steel M10 washer, which would allow mounting of virtually any modern derailleur on a Huret dropout equipped Schwinn Super Sport, Sports Tourer or Superior.
