Issue with Washing my winter gloves

Looking for some advise.

Last year when I started commuting, I bought these wonderful gloves that I love. They are full fingered and have a built in liner. But I HATE when I have to wash them. When I wash them, the liner gets messed up in the glove and it takes me FOREVER to align the fingers since it is a built in liner. My wife, who has more patience then me and smaller hands tried and cannot get it.

I would love to keep these gloves because I know they work for me but hate washing them. Any advice or tricks of the trade? I know someone will say "buy gloves with separate liners". Food for thought but would like to stick with this for the time being.

Are you machine washing them? Maybe just wash them in the sink. Better yet, have your wife wash them in the sink with her hands in the gloves as she swishes them about.

I admit I've never washed mine either, but they don't get the amount of use yours do. I have tossed my summer gloves into the washer with decent results, though.

This is what I do. Put the gloves on your hand, pour some liquid dish soap in the palm and then wash the gloves just like you were washing your hands. When you're done washing, remove your hands from the gloves and gently squeeze the excess water out of them. The more water you squeeze out, the faster they'll dry. Stuff the gloves full over paper towels and leave them somewhere to dry overnight.

Having clean gloves is rarely a critical factor in the success of a ride. Which is to say: you can always put off cleaning them for a day or two until you know they'll have plenty of time to dry.

Get a duplicate pair just for that reason.

A trick I learned to help get most of the moisture out of bike gear so it can air dry faster is to put whatever it is you want to dry in a towel and then wrap/twist the towel around it, think like youre making a rat tail that you snap someone with. Keep twisting the towel as tight as you can and it will literally squeeze most of the moisture out of the gear and dramatically speed up drying time.

My current winter gloves are a Manzella glove shell, combined with Smartwool glove liners. Since they are two separate pieces, washing them is trivial.

It did sound sexist, didn't it? But my thought was that she would have smaller hands so they would wash out better than if the gloves are on your hands tightly.

I don't know what you're doing to your gloves, but I don't need to clean mine after every ride! Given that, there's more than enough flexibility to wash them and allow them to dry overnight...

I wear them! 6 days a week for riding. he he he . Can can I say... I sweat!

My hands sweat quite a bit, too! Still, I find that I don't have to wash my gloves that often. When done riding, I make sure they get some ventilation so they dry out, rather than allowing sweat to soak in and create a stink. I probably wash my gloves once a month, when the palms start to look a bit dirty. Can't imagine needing to wash them more than once a week...

You can use 2 of these things http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gold-Eagle-G...item564a0d1fa5 put them inside your gloves and put the gloves in a wash bag. They seem to maintain the integrity of the glove and lining pretty well.

You can probably find one at most brick and mortar golf stores i.e. Dicks etc. or maybe even W=Mart? Grab just one and try it and see if that works for you.

If your dishwasher can wash with cold water and with the air dry, put them in your dishwasher. Use just a drop of laundry soap. For years, I have been washing my gore-tex skiing, hunting and snowmobile gloves that way. They do take a while to dry. If you need them quicker, put them in the spin cycle of the washer. It doesn't pull the fingers out. I have a Peet boot dryer...it works great and dries them overnight.

Now how about the Chef bar recipe?

Also, get a hunting scent neutralizer. That is what I use in my sons hockey gloves....and they really stink. That could help between washings

For years, I have been washing my gore-tex skiing, hunting and snowmobile gloves that way. They do take a while to dry. If you need them quicker, put them in the spin cycle of the washer. once a week is about right. Less when it is really cold.

Sink wash, wring them dry in a towel, dry with hair dryer (inside and out but don't' get it too close).
