When you dont use your rollers, do you sell them?

Back in January built a DIY set of motion rollers. The first couple months I used them ALL the time. Watched movies, TV, music...kept me busy. Its now mid May and I haven't used them in 2 months. Its not because the weather has changed because here in the Northwest, we still get the rain. I get so bored on them now that I would just rather not ride at all. I think I was excited at first because I built the system myself. After the excitement wore off, it was BORING! They are just sitting in my garage collecting dust now, would you sell them or hang onto them for that day I might get the urge?

Others that bought rollers, used them a couple times and then put them in the corner, Did you ever pull them back out or are they still sitting in the corner?

Since first getting a trainer, and only for Winter, I have never used it more than twice a week.

So now, a few years later, I still want to use them, because I never made myself get "sick" of it by using it every day.

i use mine when it's just to unbearable to get on the road. I worked on riding more this past winter but we didn't really have a winter but they still got used. A regular trainer is just way to boring to continuously ride but it's nice knowing if i want to just ride the rollers in the garage and watch the rain I could.

Nah, keep them. They're one of the few apparatus that require no maintenance and are good to go right away.

You never know - in the dead of a winter, or in the dead of dark, you'll likely get the hankering to spin away just for kicks. They're not all bad. Your setup was pretty sweet as well - def keep that one just for bragging rights that you rigged it yourself.

I bought my rollers used on CL for $50. Used them about 5 times. Then realized that here in AZ, there actually isn't a time of year when riding on the road isn't possible. Sold them about 8 months later for $50 on CL.

I use mine often when the wether is bad. With the wind load fan attachment ( they're Kreitlers), I get a pretty good workout.

So I'd say kep them ( but I got the Kreitlers because someone didn't).

Keep em. I rarely use them most of the year but I still get dozens of base hours on them. It all adds up...

BTW, "rather not ride at all" = sacrilege!! The shame!!!

Make it fun. Things you can do on rollers that can be difficult to do on the road:

    Intervals - 30sec easy / 30sec max, 1min easy / 5min max, Xmin easy / Ymin max...

FTP Testing - 20min sustained power. If you don't have a power meter you can still do this, although the results won't be measured in Watts but rather in sustained speed on the rollers and can only be compared to future tests on the same rollers. Some rollers have wattage charts (Kreitler rollers do) but don't count on them being terribly accurate. I enjoy doing these indoors as it removes all other variables (environment, terrain, traffic) except you and the bike. Because there are no other variables you can know exactly how well you're fitness is progressing. I like to do this every week if it rains.

Recovery Rides - Sometimes it's hard to limit yourself to recovery pace when you're outside (headwind, hills, ego). But can be tolerable on rollers while watching a documentary on ant colonies or the antique roadshow.

I can do about 30min to 60min before my butt goes numb from only sitting. So I try to make the most of it.

Some other things that helped make it fun for me was watching cycling videos on youtube. Here are my favorites:

1990's and 1980's Tour de France - This guy has 30min+ videos of each stage of the tour from the 90's and 80's. They're in playlist format so when stage 1 finishes, stage 2 starts automatically. Each tour year has 22 videos, that's 11 hours per tour!
Spring Classics and hard to find - Hour+ long videos of 2011 and 2012 spring classics and Tour of Turkey, Romandie, etc. 1080p quality.
    Eddy Merckx documentary - 1974, Hour+ long Merckx'fest
Chris Boardman - Hour Record - Boardman attempting to beat Merckx' hour record using circa 1970 machine.

    Too many others to mention.
