My bike is worth more than my car!

I usually don't lock my car when I leave it in my garage. But when my bike is inside my car, I lock my car. I'm more afraid of my bike being stolen than of my car being stolen. I figure a thief won't bother to break into my car to steal it, but they would break into my car to steal the bike inside it. My car is a '92 Honda Accord with 215,000 miles. My bike is a Giant Rapid 1 with over 2,500 miles on it. Most of the car miles were from when my dad drove it, he gave me this car when I turned 16, and I've taken care of it ever since for 8 years. In the past year, I've put more miles on my bike than on my car, and I do more maintenance to my bike than my car. In fact, this year I've only filled up my gas tank twice. It's not unusual for me to leave my car in the garage unused for 2 weeks, and I sometimes am "forced" to take the car out for a drive just so the battery doesn't die.

Gift Car and a bike you paid for, pretty easy to have the bike more valuable.

@nd2010, my routine as well. I've put slightly over 500 miles on my Camry this year. Saves on gas, brakes and oil changes. I'd go car free but my wife and I are up in years and may need an emergency vehicle at some time, as well as Savannah trips on our anniversaries.

Sounds like a magazine ad from about 10 years ago.

I used to drive lots of cars that I paid less for than the Bianchi I was riding back then. Now it would be a toss up if one of my bikes could sell for more than my '03 Windstar

Was that a Thule ad? I think I have it in a folder somewhere.

Don't recall that ad but there's an expression round here...

"You know you're in Colorado when the mountain bike is worth more than the Subaru it's sitting on."

A have 6 bikes, a unicycle, and a motorcycle. And no car. Do I win a prize?
When I had a car, it usually cost the same or less than my most expensive bikes.
    It's all about priorities...

I have a 2001 Subaru Outback with a terribly crackly defective paint job and a tricky transmission, 135k, so it's maybe worth $4000-5000, not that I plan to sell it. I was checking to see the last time I changed the oil. It was last July and I haven't even put 3000 miles on it since then. That's what riding a bike to work every day will do. I try to drive it once a week, or occasional trip out of town. Took it to Moab to do some road riding last week. None of my bikes are worth $4-5k, maybe all my bikes combined.
