Just set an appointment with my eye doc. Going to enlist their help in getting the glasses - I have simply got to go Transitions, since I use the same glasses to ride in the morning to work as I do to ride a century on the weekend. My astigmatism is bad enough to be a challenge, I have finally surrendered myself to the higher $$ optician, at least for this first pair. Riding without lenses down a big local mountain reinforced that I simply don't wanna do that.

For expense, will likely go single vision rather than progressive/bifocal. I can put my readers on to do close or fine stuff, have a very compact folding pair that I carry in my pocket.
2011 BMC SR02; 2010 Fuji Cross Comp; n+1 on hold today, due to college tuition and a wedding. Some day, some where, over the rainbow, I will get that 29er....

I have Rudy's with optical inserts and transition lenses. The transition is dark enough unless you're riding directly into a rising sun. Be advised that the glasses won't darken inside a vehicle due to the lack of UV radiation. I'm going to buy some ordinary gray lenses so I can use these glasses while driving.

I also got mine at Zenni. They cost $19 and have lasted for 3 years. You can't beat Zenni. They have a huge selection. There is no reason to pay hundreds of dollars for sunglasses, unless you are buying them from a relative.

    What is the "Magic" of
    Transitions lens technology?

Photochromic molecules are the "magic" technology inside each Transitions lens. As you experience different lighting conditions throughout your day, the molecules adapt by changing structure. This automatic change causes the lens to get darker, as well as return to be as clear as an ordinary, non-photochromic lens.
The molecules are triggered to change by exposure to specific wave-lengths of light. Original Transitions photochromic lenses are activated by UV light. This is why the lens activates when outdoors but not indoors. Transitions XTRActive lenses are activated by UV light as well as visible wavelengths of purple and blue light giving the lens slight activation indoors and increased activation behind the windshield of the car and even more activation outdoors.
The family of Transitions lens products continues to be the most advanced featuring photochromic lens technology and remains the best choice to improve vision by enhancing your ability to discern objects of varying size, brightness and contrast, giving you the gift of better sight everyday and in any light condition
The lenses don't turn all the way dark ANYMORE compared from before. there's an "in-between" phase/color that the lenses turn into when it's cloudy. That's one of the major changes from years ago.

But just to add in this thread: the best lenses *to date* that I have used on a BRIGHT, SUNNY day while riding are a pair of Polarized lenses with mirror coating. They're very expensive though.
