Which shoes should I get?

I'm looking to buy road shoes for the summer. I currently have cheap black ones that are super comfortable but getting a bit tatty. I've tried on a few pairs in the shops around here and these are contenders. No Sidis in shops around here and I'm not mad on Shimanos.

Which do you think are the best/nicest looking? Anything else I should consider?

I have Mavic (not the same model) and Spesh (agan, not the same model). I like them both, but the Mavic has better air circulation. If you have over-pronation, Spesh is better.

I bought some BG shoes about 4 years ago...since then I have bought 3 other pairs of high end shoes that cost much more than the BG's did but I keep going back to the BG's, I think I'll be happily wearing them until they rot away and by the way they've been holding up that could be quite a few years down the road. The other shoe I've had luck with is the "Northwave" product that's not in your list...

I happen to have just bought one of those above, and like them, but that's has nothing to do with what works for you.

Do Northwave shoes run wide? I have Shimano shoes and need to wear wide shoes (E) width. However, with Specialized, I can fit into their stock shoes but Specialized doesn't make a 4-bolt Speedplay shoe and I hear that Northwave does. Lake also makes a wide Speedplay shoe but it cost $500.00.

Thanks. Speedplay's website says that Northwave makes four bolt shoes but I can't find any mention on Northwave's website.

By "BG" I was referring to a "Specialized" product, it stands for "Body Geometry"... More info can be found on the following link;

I know comfort is the most important thing, but looks-wise what do you think? How does the shiny patent look of the S-Works and the Giros stand up to wear?

So far, I'm going to rule out the Mavics because I'm not mad on the look and the buckle is pretty annoying. I really like the look of the Louis Garneau Revos and the Giro Trans, but I'm not convinced that the LG's fit me as well as the Giros. Then again the Giros have super thin soles which require short bolts (supplied), but I prefer to replace the bolts when I change cleats. Everyone seems to like the look of the S-Works BGs, but I thought they were a bit too wide for me when I tried them. I do love the Boa fasteners though. I am going to revist some shops again today and try them all again. Thanks for your replies so far.

I don't want boas on my shoes. I like my toes loose, and my ankle tight, so the old 3 strap system works well for that.

I bought these and have had no problems with them and they are comfortable. Makes me wonder why more people don't use velcro shoes in regular life.. must be an image thing.

I've never had problems with foot pain or power and love being able to clip in from both sides without having to look with the hybrid pedals or MTB pedals vs one sided entry on most roadie pedals. I did realize I was doing it wrong but I'm not spending $150+ on new shoes and pedals when the ones I have work so well. I'll upgrade when they wear out. I have no foot pain and can walk around fine in them.

Just back from retrying the SWorks and the Louis Garneaus. The SWorks are out because they're too wide in the size that's long enough. The LGs fitted well and I really like the look of them even if they at the budget end of the scale . I'll try the Giros again next week and make my desicion.

Question: can anyone tell me what the 2 central grooves on these soles are for?

The Giros have a single groove that I believe can be used for fixing the Look Keo memory tab.

The S works shoe has two boa knobs and allows you to achieve that. It is much easier to adjust on the fly and is better than the old strap system. Change is good, some people still prefer a horse and buggy.

Nice, I tried them too today. I just prefer the look of the white Revos for a summer shoe. Yours are a bit more expensive at £109, but I'm not basing my decision on cost. I nearly pulled the trigger on the Revos, but I'm in no rush so I'll have another look at the Giros next week.

If S-Works is too wide for you... maybe Mavic shoes would do it for you. Mavic Pro & Huez felt far more comfier than other shoes you listed except too a little narrow toe box for me vs S-Works or Shimano. Would have gone Mavic if they had wide size on those lines instead of specialized.

Thanks for the tip, but Mavic's are out mainly because the girlfriend thinks the yellow M logo on the shoes looks as though they're Morrison's supermarket own brand!
