So I left my cycling shoes at a friends house.......

So I left my cycling shoes at a friends house.......they are going to UPS ship them (its about a six hour drive so im not going to go back just to pick them up) talk about feeling stupid!

What should I do for the ~week or so it takes for the shoes to get shipped back to me? Should I just ride in sneakers? Should I do some exercises in the gym instead? I'll probably end up doing some running also.......

    whoops

You need more than one pair of shoes! Run, don't walk, to your local shop to get good back-up pair + cleats.

Report back and your grade will be adjusted.

I keep a pair of bike shoes in my car. I got to the freeway once before I realized I forgot them. Now I don't have to worry about it.

It's a really good idea to have more than one pair.

If you don't want to spring for another pair, get a set of adapters for your pedals, or a set of used platform pedals and swap them out.
    Don't believe everything you think.

I ride in regular shoes on my Shimano road pedals all the time for pub crawls and other shorter rides to places where I will be getting off the bike and walking around. I wouldn't do a century like that, but the pedal is big enough that you can ride on them with a stiff, grippy soled shoe. Its probably not as bad as you might think.

You could also look for a friend that can loan you some platform pedals or buy some cheap-os at your lbs.

Use it as an excuse to buy fancy new shoes. Keep the old ones for winter.

I forgot my shoes when I arrived to a race in San Diego. I ended up finding the nearest LBS and buying some new ones. Get more shoes.

As always, the answer around here is spend more money. You should have at least one backup for everything.
Unless they dawdle in shipping your shoes, it shouldn't take a week to get to you, just a couple of days. Unless you're aching to spend more money, ride the bike in sneakers or go for a run, walk, or to the gym.

Buy new shoes when they are on sale or you get a good deal. Then keep the old ones for back-up.

The other question is why use regular UPS service that takes a week? It doesn't cost that much more for two days or have them FedEx'd so they are there the next day.

Don't be cheap - this is bike riding we're talking about. So what you might have to eat peanut butter sandwiches for a week!
You're just trying to start an argument to show how smart you are.

Hey, I like buying stuff as much as the next guy, but buying new shoes and cleats just so I don't miss a couple of days of riding doesn't sound like a good use of my money. It's much cheaper to pay for next day Fedex.

I know, it was a razz. We don't all do it the same, and that's cool. I just sold off six pair of old shoes that were in great shape, down to three pair. Some might say I have a problem, but when you find that right shoe, you buy it in bulk when you have high-maintenance feet.

A 2nd pair of shoes is def helpful. More often than not, I ride hard on one day, and the shoes are just soggy messes that need a good day to dry. That's when the 2nd pair comes in super handy on a regular basis.

I would pay the extra $$$ to have same day delivery, I ride everyday.
I did ride a small ride in my flip flops on my pedals though, don't think I'll do it again, the sole was way too flexible.
Seeing that I have way too many normal street shoes, it was natural for me to have @ least 2 pair of cycling shoes.

Duct tape. Available in many colors to match your bike.

Can be a bit inconvenient on pub crawls, however.

Buy a couple of cases of beer. You should finish them about the time the shoes arrive. No harm done.
