Uploaded to golden cheetah and it showed x-power of about 225, which seems reasonable. I know the calculation between the 2 isn't identical, but it should be pretty close. The lap NP power looked right on the garmin (around 250 for ~45 minutes on a fast-ish group ride). So, the hard "lap" showed a lower NP than the entire ride, where most of the time outside the hard hour was very light effort. Something doesn't look right. Anyone else looking at NP numbers yet and do they look reasonable?
Be sure you have your FTP set the same on Garmin Connect, Golden Cheetah and the Garmin 500.

Anyone know how I can determine total mileage or overall averages in GC 3.0 development build?

I had the same problem. Update GC. It will work. Also, the new GC can import GPX files as well.

NP seems to be working fine now. The 3.0 update turns on "Smart recording" and I set it back to one second recording. I'm not sure that caused the issue, but it's an issue regardless. I've done another ride and 2 races last night and the numbers look good (accurate anyway).

By the way, I don't think FTP figures in to NP, so it wouldn't matter if it's the same on the different systems for NP (and I don't use Garmin Connect). It is only important to set FTP properly for things like IF and TSS and some of the other calcs that use it.

Updated mine as well - use Webupdater, and deleted all my history files prior to that. Took about 5 minutes or so, IIRC.

Double checked THE book "Training and Racing with a Power Meter" -- you are correct about NP. I was thinking about TSS and IF.

I just got mine today, hooked up to Garmin Connect and initiated update. All went well until I was prompted to restart the device. It went through the "Loader Loading" sequence and has now been blank for several minutes. I can't get it to turn back on or to connect to pc, even while holding Enter to plug into mass storage.

    Help?!

I don't really remember the xPower and NP ever being particularly close to each other, but my WKO free trial expired quite a while ago...

Maybe somebody who regularly uses both can weigh in?

NP from the Garmin on my 30 miler this morning was 265 which had me feeling pretty good about myself. The xPower of 232 tempered that a bit.

    1) turn unit off
    2) Hold "enter" on the unit and plug unit into computer (bottom left button)
    3) wait 5 seconds or so, then release 'enter'. This turns unit into "mass storage" mode, and should show up on your computer as a USB drive.
    4) open garmin drive in computer, navigate to garmin/newfiles and delete all files there.
    5) go up one directory and delete gupdate.gcd if it's there
    6) re-run the web updater
    7) eject drive from computer before unplugging it
    8) power on garmin and wait at least 20 minutes for everything to load and process.

    Should work then.

Followed your advice and resisted the urge to mess with it after the screen went blank. 5 mins later it turned itself back on and initiated setup. All is well now!

    Thank you!

I finally was cleared to do some riding, and I do notice that for some reason the Edge 500 isn't calculating calories anymore since the update. It's no big loss since the numbers it came up with for calories were notoriously inaccurate, but I am curious about what might have caused this.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Updated last night to 3.0 the same way and had no problems. On the ride this morning powered up the garmin and it went through a bunch of updates, initializing, etc. Then it stayed on the same screen with the words Garmin for over 15 minutes and thought I bricked it. Started the ride and was please to see it finally booted and all was fine.
