Pacific Northwest 'Night at the Races'
I've been thinking a for a while that it'd be really cool to meet up with some of you guys at Marymoor Park and go for ride then watch/race the races after. They have scheduled races Thursday and Friday nights at 7pm. https://velodrome.org/mva/node/18. Who's up for this? I've got no specifics as far as meet time, ride route, or date. So, let's discuss and see what might work for most of us...

How many people are in the Seattle area in C&V. We might be able to get more people in the commuting and SSFG forums hehe.

Here's one
And I'm open to this in a couple weeks when I take some well-deserved leave. If I time it correctly, I can hit two Thursdays in a row.

I'd love to - I have very limited availability though. You guys can pick a date, and if I'm around, I'll definitely join in.

OK, so that a few of us. And the dates narrowed to "in a couple weeks". I will stick this over in SSFG, it is track racing after all.

Cross-post from SSFG-
DD and I were talking like two weeks out or so to give time for scheduling but I may have to head out there this weekend to see this! He makes a good point on the Friday is better than Thursday for viewing the races too.
-Andy
Thursday Night's are for beginners so the turn out may not be as exciting as Friday. Friday is Elite/1/2/3.
If you had to choose a week out of the year, this Friday 7/20 and Saturday 7/21 at 7:00PM is the Marymoor Grand Prix.
There is $15,000 cash on the line which brings out the best around the nation. There will be 2012 Olympic track racers in the mix going for the cash as well. It will be a great opportunity to see what team USA is going to bring to London in a few weeks.

Andy and I talked this morning and decided to set this out a couple weeks - that way, anyone interested in riding either to the track or doing a ride from the track and back to watch the racing could plan ahead. We're thinking a Friday night.
I'll be sending out a PM tonight to all the PNWers I have on the list, and toss a couple dates out there. We'll do the democratic thing: majority rules on the date
Let's get this ball rolling - yeah!
Great idea, Andy - glad to do my part to help get 'er done.

I suppose the velodrome parking lot is as good a place to meet as any, and it's only a 3 minute ride from there out of the park to the trail.

I miss the velodrome. Use to ride at the one in Colorado Springs back in the 80's. I wish they would build one in Phoenix. Or I need to move to Washington. Sounds like you guys are going to have a blast! Take pictures.

Okay, as of this evening, this looks to be the group assembled at this stage:
Andycapp
Northbend
Scozim
Drillium Dude
Anybody else? We've not nailed down the exact time to start the ride, but leaning towards beginning around 5/6 and back in time for the racing to begin at 7.
Oh, and I found out tonight from Scozim that there is a charge for parking and for the races, around 10-15 total. Hope that won't scare anyone off

As far as meet up time goes, I vote for 5pm at the latest if we're going to get a decent ride in and have a moment to get something to eat (can anyone vouch for the food at the track, is there is any?). Although I am flexible on the time thing, as I don't want anyone to miss out if they can't get there 'till later. Price for parking is news to me, I hadn't thought to look into it. I'm OK with that, but we could always park at a near by trail head - I bet they don't charge for bikes at the track

Here's some info I pulled from the MVA site regarding the Friday Night Races:
[h=1]Friday Night[/h]
The Friday Night Track Racing series ("The Show") is thrilling action for racers and spectators alike. World-class athletes compete under the spotlights while family and friends picnic on the lawn or enjoy the view from the stands. The popular "Kiddie Kilo" happens the first and third Fridays of each month.
[h=4]2012 Dates[/h]
[h=4]Race Categories[/h]
[h=4]Racing License and Fees[/h]
[h=4]Kiddie Kilo[/h] Races for kids aged 2-12 will be held during the 2012 season on the 1st and 3rd Friday of June, July, August and September. Race entry is free, so just bring a kid, a bike and a helmet! Parental permission is required. Find out more information on the Kiddie Kilo page.
[h=4]Spectator Info[/h]
I for one am surprised at the beer garden note - I've never seen that down there before. I do believe I'll have one or two myself

One more bump
We've added Kcoyef to the group, which brings us to five - and he may be bringing a friend, too.
Anybody else out there willing/able? 5pm at the Marymoor Park Velodrome parking lot; just look for a group of bikes with cables sticking out over the tops of the bars

Sorry guys, I would join, but it's hard for me to get to the Eastside unless it's a weekend. My girlfirned also demands my time since she is gone for a week at a time for this month!

We met at Marymoor Park and did a short out n back ride on the Sammamish River Trail. The trail wasn't terribly busy and the weather couldn't have been any better.
Turns out Scozim has more in common than bikes with the Dude. I think they share the same barber..
Andycapp really does wear caps..
Just past Redhook Alehouse on our return
Once back at the park we took in some racing at the Velodrome
As it got darker, it became more difficult to get shots with the little point n shoot camera.
Here's the Dude trying his hand at panning or maybe he's just trying to find that woman racer with the black and pink kit…
Anyways, it was a fine way to spend the evening. Nice meeting you guys and I hope to ride again with you soon

Had a fantastic time also, Northbend. We definitely have to do it again. Note the guy on the Tommaso in the 2nd photo - serious power in those legs. Had a really nice chat with him for a few miles.

Hey, folks, I'm in Noo Joizy, and my daughter is attending college in Olympia. (Guess which college. Yup, that's right.) Would it be conceivable that one of you could pick her up and go to the races? She doesn't have a car. She does have an Italian road racing bike, though.

A fun time was ABSOLUTELY had by all! We will certainly have to do this again. We talked a little about possibly in two weeks - Fri, Aug 24 (give or take). Northbend - thanks for the pics. I know you took a bunch, any chance you can PM some more to us (or E-Mail if that works better)? Looking forward to some of the shots DD got as well. Too bad about the one he didn't get... He sprinted ahead to get a shot and we all took that as "RACE IS ON!" and kicked it up a notch. I glanced down and saw 27MPH on the computer for a few 100 meters! That was awesome
-Quite cool running into another C/V rider on the trail like that, nice bike too- Super Record w/Deltas on that machine. I didn't catch his name though. I heard you telling him about the forum, hope he signs up.
