Price check: Peugeot on CL in my area, looks like a PH 501

Trying to figure out if $225 is an appropriate price for this model. Judging by what little I can see from the stickers, my guess is it is a PH 501 from the 1985 catalog. I have tried offering $180 to no avail.

This should be in the appraisals section, but 225 sounds like a fair price for that bike if it was all together. Reynolds 501 frame, 700c wheels, looks like it hasn't been ridden or abused much. It will probably need new tires and definitely new handlebar tape (who sells a bike with no bar tape?) so maybe mention that in your negotiations.

Hot market like DC? Should be an easy sale.

Lack of bar tape is typical around here, I don't care for it either.

My apologies for not putting this in the correct forum.

The thing about the ad is, this is the 2nd or 3rd time I have seen it since looking. This led me to believe it was somewhat overpriced so I tried to get him to come down a bit, or at least counter my offer.

That PUG is a PGN 10, because it appears to have a Reynolds 501 sticker on the fork and the seat is a Vetta. Suttle differences from a PH 501. Assuming you are buying it to ride and not recondition and resell, whether you pay 180 or 225 over the life of ownership, it really comes down to $45 over 5 to 10 years, so how important is that?

From a price vs. model perspective, it is the best deal among PUGs in the DC market today, by far.

I like mine a lot, light, stable and responsive. Can't wait to put some new rubber on it!

In person = legitimate offer, and you might be successful at $180. Until you see the bike in person, ride it, try the size out, etc., any offer is one sided at best (commits the seller).

It's most likely a PH501 as the fork sticker seems not to be a Reynolds 501 decal but a Carbolite 103. IIRC, the PH501 had 501 tubing only for the main triangle and the rest is high tensile high carbon tubing (Carbolite 103) It also looks like the bike has lugless frame construction. PGNs had lugs in its frame and full 501 tubing for it's frame and fork.
A barely used bike from the looks of it, maybe ridden for a week after it was purchased and put away in an attic or hung in a garage until now. For a PH105, even in this good condition, $225 still sound a bit high, considering the soft market for bikes like this, plus the perishables you still need to buy to get the bike back on the road (tires, bar tape, maybe brake and/or derailleur cables, if the originals have corrosion on them. I'm thinking more like $200 max for that bike. The PH105 is pretty low in Peugoet's sport bike model line at that time, so it can't really sell for mid model money like PGNs. Try to deal down the price by mentioning what you need to buy to get it back on the road.
