Maintaining Fitness With No Bike Access

I'm leaving on a two week trip tomorrow in which I'll have no access to my bike. My question is what is the best way to maintain as much of my current fitness as possible over these two weeks? I was thinking of running, but I was wondering if there are better alternatives?

If you don't run regularly I wouldn't recommend taking it up for two weeks. How about finding a fitness center with spin classes. If you're desperate you can just go into the spin room solo and pedal/sweat away.

I don't know if I'll be able to find or have access to any fitness centers during my trip though. I wouldn't have any memberships.

Call some in that area and ask. Be warned: Some gym machines have terrible seats! The gym I used to go to had stationary bikes with huge squishy seats, and the height adjustment was in two-inch increments. But it'll be better than nothing!
    Wanted: A new bicycle!
My birthday is next week. Send monies to the address below!

I travel for work frequently. If you're staying in a hotel, only the cheapest/lowest-end hotels don't have fitness facilities. If those aren't available (and even when they are, the exercise bikes/recumbents feel like a poor substitute to the real thing), I stick to walking/running/climbing the stairs.

At least for me, I don't suffer as much from the loss of exercise as I do from the ease of having a poor diet. At least on my (business) trips, I don't have the time/inclination to go to a grocery store and stock up on healthier foods, and instead end up in restaurants for all my meals.

Depends where you are going. In Maui or Kailua Kona (Ironman Championship), you can rent real nice road bikes.

Some destinations do have access to bike trails and rentals. Google the local bike shops and they will know all this and just give them a call. One thing I noticed during biking in a new place, I tend to go slower just to take in the scenery and the feel of the road and stuff.

If you haven't been running it's tough to maintain fitness without risk of injury. Best solution if you don't have access to a bike/trainer would be hiking up hills or stairs. Hiking up steep hills or climbing stairs uses similar muscles to cycling and provides an excellent aerobic workout.
