Curious how much other cyclists drink, & when. Usually for me its 1 or 2 [espressos] before a long ride, and maybe 1 in the afternoon if I really need it.
how long do you wait to drink it before rides?

1 cup at three at work. lol Even then it's 1/4 cup coffee the rest water. Doesn't really do anything at this point, but I like the taste.

I see hills.... Bring them on!!!

We have a double espresso in a tall mug of coffee, with room for 1/2 cup of steamed milk. I'm good for the day.

Lots. A mug or so at the house. I don't wait any amount of time before riding and I'll often take it with me. Then usually another large coffee at work in the mid-late morning. Usually black, sometimes with skim and sugar. Caffeine is my last remaining vice.

mmmmm coffee.....

Some sort of pithy irrelevant one-liner should go here.

2 good-sized cups a day. Always a cup in the am before I ride. Doesn't help, I'm not very fast but at least I'm awake.
None. Caffene and me disagree so anything containing it makes my stomach most unsettled. I also don't drink any kind of alchol (I condider it ti be empty calories and I hate its effects anyway). Clean living and lots of exercise should keep my heart nice and healthy.![]()
Two espressos after lunch for me, not a double but usually a single dose of two different flavors. I use a Nespresso machine and my favorites are Arpeggio (intensity 9) and Ristretto (intensity 10). I like when there's a good layer of crema (foam of top), no milk, cream or sugar.
On special days a couple dark chocolate squares make for a delicious treat.
I rarely have coffee while cycling except for very long rides where the only Perpeteum flavor I can swallow is Latte. More a choice due to flavor than to the caffeine content.
I don't drink any coffee. Mostly water or iced tea. Just not a big fan of burning my lips and tongue in the mornings.
But I see lots of folks do prior to a ride. So now I'm wondering if maybe I should start? Is there any benefits or drawbacks to drinking coffee pre-ride other than a jolt of energy?
This day will be over... one of these days!

Quote from a Kaiser commercial that reminds me of my mom.
Weekdays: 2 cups of the instructors' coffee, slightly watered down because they like it thick here.
Weekends. 1 cup, sometimes 2. Sometimes weak-brewed, sometimes instant. Sometimes there just isn't time to brew it and drink it.

I make a 12 cup pot early in the morning and sometimes make an additional 12 cup pot for black iced coffee I drink during the day, and then I generally use a 12oz Vietnamese Phin to make 2-5 cups of Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk throughout the day, and I often make an additional cup after dinner as a dessert drink. I always use a dark, rich double roasted French bean ground fairly fine, and since I don't drink much soda, I drink iced coffee or Chia tea instead.

I freely admit that I have an addiction to coffee, and I accept the consequences. I also drink 1.5-2 gallons of water a day, do at least 2 hours of walking or riding each day, and eat a very balance and healthy diet, don't eat any fast foods or junk food or drink any sodas or sugared "health drinks".....
Life is a balance that each person must make for themselves, and one of the true joys in my life is my love of coffee.

One strong cup with the aeropress gets me going in the morning.
Most people don't believe me when I say I've never had a cup of coffee in my life - not even a sip. The fact that I work a graveyard shift (since '03 and worked a swingshift for 13 years before then) might even make it harder to believe, I guess. I don't mind the smell and I even like coffee candy, but have just never bothered to try a cup. It's rather difficult to avoid smelling coffee at Genentech because they have those all-in-one coffee/espresso machines on almost every floor in all the buildings.
Don't get me wrong, I definitely have had my share of caffeine. I used to be one of those 6-pack-of-Pepsi-per-day people when I was in college back in the late 80's, but developed sour stomach issues and that cured me of caffeinated drinks for the most part. Thankfully, I don't usually require caffeine to keep me awake at work, plus it doesn't help with my hypertension.
I chuckle when I see the pros drinking Coke during their rides. If I did that, I'd probably end up with a rather embarrassing digestive problem a few miles later.
Wow, did this suddenly become Foo?
