Crit Racing Downtown Pleasanton this Sunday (8/5)

Again this year, 7 hours of racing taking over downtown Pleasanton. the 5-6:30 races are the District Championships. http://www.fastandfuriouspleasanton.com/

And, this year we have Handles Gastropub a half a block from the course, 30 craft beers on tap. (I'm not recommending the food).

Pre-regis for racers ends Sat at midnight, assuming your desired group is still open.

Went down to check it out. Had a great time, with the exception of being right next to and witnessing the carnage of a horrific pileup on the straightaway in front of Coldstone. All that cracking of carbon and cries of agony..... I really hope those three guys that left on backboards are ok. The one laying in the street looked like he was really hurt very badly.

Left after the last race - those guys were flying. Pics to follow, when I get a chance.

It was a fun race. Not sure what the logic was behind waiting until an hour before the race start before opening pre-reg line. Resulted in quite a line....

Stayed near the front, and avoided a crash further back. Those bot dots through turn 3 were scaarrry. Thankfully at the front line selection was more flexible, can't imagine what kind of charlie foxtrot it was at the back. Burned a few matches to stay near the front, but it was worth it.

If you missed the crash I witnessed, It was indeed worth it to stay near the front. About a 15 or so bike pile-up on a straight-away, with 3 folks being transported by ambulance. The worst of the three was a fellow I heard someone call "Jason", and he was at the bottom of the pile. I was standing at the rail not 20 feet away when they all went down in front of me.

Do you mean these Bots-Dots? I think this was turn 3, and yeah - they're right where you don't want to see them:

Hmm doesn't look like turn 3, anyway they pretty much determined the line. Usually they are not an issue, but these one were higher and "sharper". Hmm don't think such a big pileup happened in 4s.
Was kind of surprised there were only two prims with the amount they allocated for 4's.

Looking at the background in the photo, I think that was turn 2. Turn three would have been down at the far end and the light wasn't too good there for photographs, so I didn't hang out there.

The crash I saw happened right in front of High Tech Burrito, which is about halfway between the start and turn one. It was a real mess - they piled up really fast, and almost as fast guys sprang out of the pile carrying their bikes off tot he sidelines. I didn't get a pic of the pile, but I did get one of the three riders that stayed down, as well as the one guy that was really hurt bad.

That sucks. The sound of bikes hitting the ground is hard to forget. You know someone is going to have a crappy day.

Turn 2 was fun. A bit off camber, I think, fast. It just flew at you, hit a turning point and flick the bike, and try not to get pushed off the wheel.

That crash on the straight was silly too. Caused a 15 minute neutralization. I'm sorry people got hurt but I hate being involved in crashes when everyone is going in a straight line. We had a nice break of 5 also right before it happened.

I was standing right across from it watching the group go by, and I'll be damned if I know what caused it. Overlapped wheels touching?
