anyone here have the 820 bike by trek?? how do you like it?? how is the ride of it for riding on city streets? Thinking on getting one next year cant get one know as I'm not working right know...any pros cons of it? likes dislikes?

I have had one. It was an older model, but it's a great place to start and should fill your needs. It's a much better idea than going with a bike from a dept. store or sports store.

I like olde 820s. Current 820s have pretty short ETT measurements so I'd personally go a size up. I like a pretty stretched out XC position, though.

58cm ETT is in my sweet spot so I'd probably go for a 19.5, but for other brand's XC rigs I'm more like a 17", especially when it comes to mid-90s XC stuff.

For city streets, I'd also pick an older one with no sproingy fork.

I have the 820, either the 2010 or 11 model, not sure (im borrowing it from a relative). ive pretty much only used it on singletrack trails around my neighbourhood, just riding for fun until my full suspension bike is in (not sure which one im getting yet tho). The gears work smoothly, and the bike has held up surprisingly well against the 3 foot drops, small jumps, and 30 foot flights of stairs ive been riding down. I dont see any reason why this bike wouldnt be good for street riding. The only downside to this bike (for singletrack) is that it has a steel frame, so its heavier and harder to get air off of jumps and drops, and its less mobile, although not by too much. I wouldnt use this bike for XC for the weight, but i have no reason to believe it wouldnt work well on the streets.
