    You prefer spam to bologna?

Actually I don't like either much, but that grilled slice of pineapple and Sriracha and pineapple chutney spread laid out on a toasted bagette pretty much hide flavor of the Spam. You should try it some time. From what I am told the sandwich is quite popular in Hawaii. I know for myself that that sandwich is the only reason I would buy Spam, and I think I might actually have to pick some up today after thinking about that sandwich again.

About a month ago after a morning riding we stopped at a Cracker Barrel restaurant for lunch. I tried their chicken BLT sandwich and loved it.
toasted sourdough bread, fried or grilled (my choice) chicken tenders (4), thick sliced bacon, colby cheese, lettuce, tomato, bread and butter pickle chips and mayo served with steak fries. Went back the next day and got it again and then the following week I made a homemade version that the family thought was even a little better.

I had a really great Gyro for lunch from a tiny little store in Zionsville named "Nana's Market". They mostly sell junk food but in one corner, a woman has a small deli counter that just rocks! The lamb on that sandwich blew me away, and the flatbread was soft and tasty too. I'll be back.....

Wegmans Genoa salami, capicola, and spicy ham submarine sandwich on a wheat roll with lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, black olives, dill pickles, spicy mustard, and provalone cheese.

The first thing I did when I was well enough to walk after getting hit by a car last month was to go get one of these. Sort of a "I would never forgive myself if I didn't have just one more of these and I died tomorrow"

There was this one shop here that would do a tomato on toasted english muffin with brie sandwich that was pretty rad.

A piece of very moldy German army bread in the early 1940s.
Scraped off the mold and devoured it!
Being starved during the 4 year Nazi occupatrion gives one a different perspective about the 'best' sandwich.

All over the south really. It's great stuff, sliced thick, browned on both sides, some mayo and hot sauce. Even better with scrambled eggs on the sammich too.

Like was mentioned earlier, I can't name just one but some stand outs are, in no particular order.

A debris from a small shop on Lake Pontchartrain.
A Ferdi from another small nameless shop in Covington La.
    Homemade meatloaf sammiches.

I couldn't even begin to narrow down the Best Sandwich I Ever Had In My Life -- both because I've had a lot of really good sandwiches, and because my memory sucks -- but just last night I had a Vietnamese Catfish Banh Mi sandwich that probably made the Top Ten.

Great thread... so many good sandwiches... Here's a few:

Breakfast: Small gourmet cheese shop in midtown Manhattan I used to visit daily for fresh semolina baguette with fresh eggs, smoked turkey, and imported brie. (Melange on 39th b/w Lex & Mad if I recall correctly, haven't been back there in ages)

and of course, good bagels (Lenny's in Rye Ridge has the best!) w/ Lox, cream cheese, onion, tomato (no capers for me).

Lunch: The Gobbler: Home made turkey & stuffing w/ aged cheddar and fresh cranberry sauce baked in filo dough. Ive also had a pannini version of the same sans cheddar.

Dinner: I had a beef on weck a few years back from a famous place in Buffalo when visiting an old friend. Too many burgers over the years that would rank highly on the list.

Late Night: Mike's Big Mouth - awesome steak burrito from a hole in the wall in Buffalo NY during Uni years. A real aphrodisiac.

Good thing we're not talking pizza's here... or dessert.
