sturmey archer s2c duomatic igh -- pre-first-ride advice?

my loving partner of many years has purchased for me a sturmey archer s2c duomatic wheelset. it's very fancy and i am keen to ride it soon...

however, i am a complete noob when it comes to internal geared hubs and am wondering if there is anything that i must/should do before my first ride? i've heard some people say that there is initial maintenance that needs to be done: some say just greasing. some insist on total rebuilds. some say these hubs are good to ride right out of the box.

anyone with experience with these... what's the scoop?

With the S2C, nothing needs to be done out of the ordinary. Just slap the wheelset on, make sure that coaster brake arm is nice and tight against the frame and ride on.

Mine creaked for the first couple hundred miles, but now it is quiet.

Just riide it. They are essentially maintenance free. I have over 2000 miles on my S2 and like it very much. It will take you about 500 miles until shifting is intuitive, so stick with it.

Had a turquoise/chrome Murray when I was a kid w/a kickback hub. This is no different. One simply 'kicks back' quickly as when braking when wanting to change gears. Sort of like the Schlumpf bb only way cheaper and much more instinctive. Have fun.
