The bike riding gods must be angry

I'm not sure what is going on lately, it seems like a lot of riders that I know are going down in crashes. I went over the handlebars Friday on my mountain bike. I came out of it with some road/forest rash and some bruising. A couple of other riders from our group have done the same. My cousins husband was hit by a car, and my sister in-laws husband went down in a crash that ended up with his face hitting a rock around his eye socket. At this point, they do not know if he will lose his eye or not. All of this in the last week. I guess my point is that this bike thing is great fun, but comes with some danger too. So, be safe out there folks.

Yep, the Lynskey was not involved, even though I thought I was not going to be able to ride it for my Sunday ride with the forest rash around my knees. Fortunately they were fine for the ride, but when I went to get on them to do push ups yesterday, well... not so good.

I hope everyone else's luck turns around; but I'm the first to admit that my wipeout over the weekend had nothing to do with bad luck and everything to do with poor stunt execution. Seriously, that was all my fault.

The riding gods may have been looking the other way then, I had a lucky escape on Sunday. Approaching a bend on a descent I spotted some mud and some gravel, and in trying to avoid one and not lean over so hard I went down I went off the edge of the road onto gravel. At that point I thought I was about to get more intimately acquainted with the hedge at the roadside than I really wanted, but managed to lean enough to get back on the road.

That wasn't the best time for my back wheel to hit another patch of gravel and squirm wildly. I'm still not entirely sure how I kept the bike upright, but went from expecting my first ever dose of road rash to freewheeling away thankful.
