Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized Spring Classics Sale

Specialized Spring Classics Sale now through April 22 with factory discounts of up to $1000. Looks like a great deal on the latest Specialized Carbon bikes.

I was offered the Roubaix Expert SL4 Compact Ui2 for $4100 ($1K off normal MSRP) or
the Roubaix Expert SL4 Compact for $3300 ($500 of normal MSRP)

My Trek Madone is now 7 years old so the discount was enough to convince me to buy a new bike.
I opted for the normal non-electric figuring I could always upgrade to Di2 in the future and keep the mechanical shifters and derailleurs to use on ther bikes.
I went with the Carbon Satin/Charcoal/Blue figuring it wouldn't be as popular as the Carbon/White/Red. The Ui2 Expert only comes in the Carbon/White/Red.
Pick it up next weekend.

The Roubaix SL4 Expert Compact comes with Ultegra.
I've been riding Ultegra and Dura-Ace stuff for over 25 years so I stayed with what I'm used too.
I did ride a friends Tarmac with SRAM Red and I liked it but it's big $ too. On the Roubaixs you have to move up to the S-Works models at $8000+ to get SRAM Red, or order a frame and build it up yourself.

Buying a Roubaix was one of the best decisions I've made. I put 30,000km on it in three years.
