I see a lot of cyclists from the Seattle and Portland area's. Are there any from the Spokane area? I primarily ride solo and I know there are a few clubs in town but I'm looking for something smaller. Maybe a mentor or a cycling buddy? Idk....I suppose more then anything it would be nice to know that I'm not the only one on this forum from Spokane....end rambling.

I suggest you check out, meetup.com for organized bike rides in your area.

The blog doesn't seem as active as it used to be, but he's posted "bike hangs" and other ride-type get togethers in the past. At the very least, it will be interesting local reading. And you can probably hit up John for more local info.

Yup, I'm from Spokane as well. Tons of cyclists around these parts. I'm 53 and between injuries, work, and life in general find it hard to ride from year to year. I just got back to riding after taking several years off, and am training for the STP. I've always pretty much ridden alone, unless meeting some folks at an event. Didn't plan it that way, just works out like that. I train when I can and try to stick to my plan for that day. Congrats on the weight loss, keep at it. I've lost 35 lbs myself since last fall, hovering around 185. Looking to loose another 8 - 10 before July. See ya on the road.

Spokane is a hub of cycling fun and events. First off, find a good bike shop. In the long run, it's one step that will be invaluable. Pick up a copy of April's Out There monthly at any number of locations (often times where you see the Inlander). Its a free publication with an OK website. Don't forget Bike to Work Week in May. This weekend - Sat, 4.13 & Sun, 4.14 - is the Bike Swap at the Fairgrounds. You're bound to meet one or two cyclists hanging around . Have fun, keep pedaling & we'll see you down the road.

When I visit my daughter, I'm a Spokane rider.

I used to live in the Coeur d Alene area, and last year they had the first annual Coeur d Fondo (https://cdagranfondo.com/). I just moved to a new city and riding a big ride like the CdF was how I made all my new biking friends last year. I'm not sure what other organized rides there are in the area because I only really got into bikes after I left CDA, but making friends at events like that has been fun for me.

I'm from SE BC just north of the border and frequently ride in WA - most SE WA. Some great road rides in the Palouse and near Pullman. I wanted to ride the Lilac Century this spring in Spokane but unfortunately life got in the way....

Thanks for the discussion. I'm just a couple years away from retirement and am seriously considering northern Idaho/eastern Washington.

(Just in case any of you say, "Oh no! Not another Californian. They'll ruin the place." - my great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents were born, raised, and buried in Idaho - so I have ancestral roots in the state. I promise to not bring Californian liberalism with me.)

I live near Spokane, and have found many new friends in the Spokane Bike Club. However, I ride on the their rides for about 25% of my miles, mostly solo or with a few friends. The trail systems around here are fantastic: Centennial trail, both Washington and Idaho sections, Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, Hiawatha trail, Fish Lake Trail, Children of the Sun to name many of the trails where motors are not allowed. The streets have designated bike trails, but often don't have bike lanes. There is a good selection of hills, and some flat.

Moses Lake here, I enjoy riding around Spokane when I can, The 8 Lakes Leg Aches in August is a great ride if you are looking for an organized event, Spokane-Medical Lake-Cheney-Spokane loop. Also The Lilac Century is great and has some good hills. Spokefest is this weekend, (I gotta work) its lots of fun too.
