I'm sure many of you are familiar with this organization but to those who aren't I wanted to make their great work a little bit more known.
Bike & Build is a non-profit that gets young people involved in cycling and activism at the same time and I am very happy to be one of their riders. To participate in one of their cross-country rides (my route is Maine to California), riders each raise $4,500. The money raised is then granted out to groups like Habitat for work on projects that alleviate substandard housing and provide housing to low-income people. I also volunteer on build sites before leaving for the ride in June and volunteer throughout the summer as we make our way across the country.
I am only $500 away from my goal of $4,500 right now. I am also getting into serious training for the first time in my life. I will be doing 2 back to back centuries on May 11-12 (a little scared but mostly pumped...)
If you're interested in helping to sponsor me, check out my blog: http://kamalrides.wordpress.com
I also have some cool t-shirts as a thank you for a $20 or more donation!
