Confession
I rode to work today for the first time since January 16th.
I feel good that I got back on the bike but guilty I've done so poorly so far since mid January. Life has just been crazy lately.
For some reason I felt the need to confess. I'll try to do better. I promise.

We've had a lot of rainy-freezy stuff this winter/spring, so that's my excuse.

Last week was my first week commuting this year, too.

Try not to dwell too much on what you're doing wrong/haven't done lately; just focus on every day as "in the moment" as possible. The more our minds ruminate on the bad things, the harder it becomes to break bad habits. Now that it's off your chest, get out and ride the first chance you get!!!!

I've been whimping out on bike commuting a lot this year, too. Here in the northeast, the weather has just been so lousy and uninspiring.
Let's face it, for many of us, the thing that's so appealing about bike commuting is that we don't HAVE to do it if we don't want to. I think I'd probably hate it if I did.
We all do the best we can. Right now, the vibe is not there for me to bundle up every morning, get on the bike, freeze my nose and cheeks off, then go through everything I have to go through to get ready for work at the other end. It's just so much easier to drive the 3-4 miles.
As soon as Spring bursts out here on Long Island (and not this "ooh, it's going to be 59 degrees today" type of Spring we're having) I'm certain my energy level will explode. Yours will probably do the same, so just go easy on yourself and get on the bike when the time is right.
PS: I have the ultimate respect for those who bike to work every day out of "necessity." You guys and girls are my idols. I'm just not tough enough to be one of you.

This is my bicycle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.My bicycle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.My bicycle, without me, is useless. Without my bicycle, I am all but useless. I must ride my bicycle true. I must ride straighter than the motorist who is trying to dominate me. I must punk him before he punks me. I will...My bicycle is nearly human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its frame and its wheels. I will keep my bicycle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...Before God, I swear this creed. My bicycle and I are the defenders of my health. We are the masters of our sloth. We are the saviors of my life.So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!
This is your penance: repeat this twice daily for one week, then you must take a pilgrimage to Alpe D'Huez.

You need to be the rider, the road and the bicycle, Grasshopper.
Once you've accomplished this state of consciousness, then no weather of any kind will daunt you.
Though I will admit that rough ice all over the roads causes second thoughts.

Didn't do too bad on the 7.5 mile ride into work. When I came out last night and sat down on the bike to ride home my butt went, "aaauuugggghhhh!" Wow. I haven't been that sore in that area for a long, long time. Nothing I could do but suck it up and ride home. I even did some of the return trip standing up! At least my legs felt surprisingly good.
No way I'd be able to get on the bike today. They're predicting more rain and snow for tomorrow so I'm hoping I can ride again on Thursday. Gotta get my posterior back in shape.
