I'm trying to find a source for the DAHON Traveller Front Rack. I called Dahon and they are out of stock. Thor doesn't have any either.

Maybe someone here knows of a source or perhaps has a spare they could part with?

Actually I have one that I got to try on my Swift. It sorta fits with some spacers and slight bending, but I've never ended up using it. PM me if you're interested.

Well, I love it when Google helps me find *my own posts* from the past, but here we are again.

My Mariner was stolen off the train last week, and as I decide upon its replacement, I'm back where I started from: these Dahon front racks just aren't made anymore and are impossible to find.

If anyone has an old one in their garage/attic/closet that isn't being used, I would be very interested in buying it from you. Black or silver, old style or new style, it doesn't matter. I wound up using front panniers all the time and would like to continue doing so.

BTW, I know Thor sells a model from Tern that doesn't work on Dahons due to the differences in front brake placement, but I see photos of something clever someone did to make a bracket that allows for the attachment of a Tern front rack on a Dahon here:

I asked several times with no response about the same rack. It is a nice one. Tern does make a similar one. I have put another front rack on but having the lower hook mechanism and attachment down the fork is a nice approach.

The rack here pictured attaches easily to the v-Brake and fender mount points. It does give a good platform to carry lots of stuff which I tent to have go up the handlebar post and attach there. They are easy to find and not expensive.
Also available in Silver in the US.

You could combine some "lowrider" attachments with this style of rack and be able to emulate the Dahon Traveller and carry some small front panniers. I'm really not sure, however, that that is worth the effort. You can put a whole lot above the rack and tire. That said, I should try that as I have some Panniers which should work up front -- just critical to brace them off the tire. Not sure that the Traveller front rack has enough sway bracing. Another rack might be better, especially if something new is going to have to be made anyway.

good point badmother ...... I have used the above rack .... they are cheap and astoundingly nice for the money, but that's about it, would rather spend 3 times as much for a good rack

Don't most of the stem mounts stay static when the fork moves? Would need perhaps a slide mechanism on the rack to allow supporting a bigger load. Alternatively, some sort of a "hinge" on the stem mount to allow the pack to travel with the rack below.

Most likely just need to give it a spin. Dahon's new Luggage Rack is quite nice as an alternative. Something to consider...

I agree about the Truss's "sticking out" a bit too far for aesthetics, if not other subjects.. Pretty sure it is to handle the cables, but I like everything close to the stem and handlebar post.

I just need to see what you mean by "caddy". Likely in the thread somewhere. Yes, though, if attached to the stem and not the headset tube, then they will travel together. I was thinking the clickfix you meant was attached to the headset tube like the Truss and some of the other attachments are doing.

All good, and agreed. Resting weight on an over wheel rack, and stabilizing it to the Handlepost/Handlebar/Stem is a very effective way to go.

I do like the caddy works on seatpost as well ... that's why I always try to keep some in stock
