Black Raleighs VS. Green Raleighs. Which are better?
I don't know, I've had a lot of both, being a flipper of Raleighs. My first two were trash picked green lady's Sports. I picked them out of all the other ones in the pile cause of the pretty color. That's why I'm here today. That pretty color. Then there was a rusty black one that I parted out. A hard decision but pieces of that bike are in a lot of the bikes I've sold and a lot of the bikes I've kept. Then there was this one. Saved from the recycle bin, she's my first true love, the one bike I may never let go (note the black fenders from my first part out);

But I cheat on her. This sexy beotch is the second to last bike they'll pry from my cold dead hands. I need to take a better picture, but the christmas tree tells some of the tale;

Then there's the fixies that we don't like to talk about but we all have a secret thing for. I bought this one and loved it dearly;

But it was small so I passed it on to a shorter friend. He wasn't interested in the wheels so I put them on this curb score. Nothing special but the 26x1 1/4s really filled out the fenders in a subtly sexy way;

But somehow it seemed like a fixy should be black, so I brought this home, can you believe I paid money for it?

But with the right wheels and a few other details, it didn't look so bad;

And how can you talk about Raleighs without talking about rod brakes? It's hard to beat the good old black DL-1;

Tough to beat a black Raleigh!

That black paint is hard to kill. The seat tube of this abused bike was hit with a little polishing compound and shines like glass!

Rumor has it that the black paint contains rubber of some type to give it durability...

Good green is better than good black, but when green goes bad it leaves black and black is always good so I vote breen.

Not all green Raleighs are equal, though. Even among the same "model" there are radical differences. Compare the 1951

to the 1963

to the 1963

My favorite is actually the mink blue...closely followed by the red/black team colours. Between green/black, I have to go black overall, though a good green probably beats a good black. The black Raleigh Competitions really are beautiful bikes with the chrome.

Want to sneak this in..

I started with a 73 red 240Z.. (I had 4)Fastest and lightest one of the four that I owned. Emissions were just starting. I paid $4206 with air.
Next came 74 260Z, then a 76 280, than lastly a 78 280... Love them all..

I am thinking 3:1 ratio on the black side. Raleigh was my gateway drug.

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG
I have both...
I would probably have to say black because they are easier to bring the paint back from the brink. IIRC the Black used a different type of lacquer vs the green.

Just think what your life might have been had you grown up with orange shag carpeting, orange bell-bottomed pants, and an orange refrigerator . . .
