So my boss was hit by a car on his commute home from work while on his bike. Long fought battle ensued with various insurance companies. Long story short, he came out with a settlement and decided to get a road bike with the money. He went to the shop and was going to get an 2008 Allez but they didn't have any in size. So what happens? The call the warehouse and gets him the last of the 2009 Pre-Release Allez'! It's very pretty and has the new 9spd sora So, I took a quick cell phone picture. Here it is:
Indeed it is Matte Black...very sexy(if you consider bikes sexy). I think he said it was in the $800 range. WCS strips, I think, were nice to brake up the black and white.
I got word last week that they warranted my 2005 Allez Sport due to a head tube crack and I am supposed to be getting a 2009 frame and fork in gloss red. Should be ready by the end of the week.
I love the base color and the curving top tube (this coming from someone biased toward traditional geometry). I think the matte black looks especially sharp on the top tube. I'm ok with the world champ stripes, but they don't add anything to the bike. I don't like the two-tone front fork, but that seems to be the norm.
The one thing that would keep me from buying that bike is the way-overcrowded seat tube graphics. A less-is-more approach featuring nothing but a solid matte black seat tube would be the ticket. Alas, more marketing it is.
All that being said, I hope you friend rides the heck out of it. Since that's the point, after all.
Haven't you seen the chain\seatstays on the Allez?
I can't tell how curvy they are in the OP's picture, but have a looksy at my '08:
Well yeah but they have the straight top tubes. It's not often that I see an al road frame with a curving top tube. On the other hand, I do love the way those stays look on the Specalized... but those Allez are just way too expensive!
Well, Huy. You have to get him out on a BF ride soon.
Haha...in due time. So far, he's only done 10 mi rides in plain clothes on platform pedals. We have to ease him into this sport. It's never too late though as he's turning 61 this year
