Ok, the title is really exaggerating what happened.... it got your attention though, didn't it? I hit an enormous pothole and busted the head tube off the bike. I'll give all the cool details later (when I get photographic proof). I wanted to start the thread so that I could get info about what I should do.
Contact Giant? Go to a bike shop?
I bought the bike in Gainesville and I'm in Miami right now; should I just wait two weeks and take care of the replacement up there? <--- Terrible option, I can't be off a bike that long.
Where is the warranty info on the Giant website? I search warranty and found nothing.
jeez, when hitting a pothole and breaking the headtube off isn't considered a defect or design flaw, I'd say we've lost focus somewhere along the way . . .

I hit a big pothole on my old steel Masi and it folded the entire front end over......was that a defect or just a damn big pothole?
The Story
I was basically limping home after being destroyed by the super fast group ride. I was doing right about 20. I was on a narrow road and I kept getting pinched to the right side by people that didn't seem to notice that there was an open lane. I saw that there was a guy behind me that was patiently waiting so I pulled as far right as I could and waved him through. He passed and then pothole thing came. I hit it and the frame cracked, I endoed and slid for a lot longer than one should slide at 20 mph. Half my body was in the grass while my head/torso were on the road. I sat there stunned for a second and then I did the thing you do when you trip and people see you. I just got up and pretended nothing happened. A bunch of people saw and this really nice guy stopped and took me home. Who'd a thunk it? Nice people in Miami.
The bike is totaled, not sure about the fork, I think the front wheel is probably fried too.
I'm fine, little road rash on elbow, back, hand; but nothing major.
The spoke also broke. I'm a poet and I didn't even know it. I don't like to rhyme but I do it all the time..... uh, forgive me
Not too bad on injuries eh?
Oh yah for sure, I thought you were saying this was a defect. You know...you seem kind of stoked for someone who just cracked their bike.
I just accepted that there's not much I can do about it so there's no real reason to be Mr. Mopey about it.

No nothing, I baby the bike so much that I refuse to put it on a roof rack. She never gets cleaned though.

By my standards, it wasn't a huge pothole, I dunno though. I don't really not the structural limitations of CF so it would be difficult to make a call.

I think its normal. I remember thinking my road rash and trashed wheels and dented frame was pretty wicked when i wrecked my Trek. Then i got up in the morning and couldn't move my leg without scabs pulling apart and an immense burning at the slightest gust of wind or movement. Then i decided to assess the damage and i realized that an oversight on the bike cost me about $800. Yeah, it was awesome!
Buy a bike off craigslist today, and get the Giant taken care of properly. It will take a few weeks. Your CL bike will resell for your purchase price anyway when you get the Giant back.
So, these are not the kinds of stories I'm looking to hear after I just purchased my first CF bike! I'm used to re-shaping potholes.
Let me be the first to say... you're too fat for this sport!
Glad to see you're okay. I guess one of the good things about riding so close to the edge of the road is that if you fall, you have somewhat of a chance of landing on grass. Unless there's a telephone poll there.
