    Tour de Cupcake: Ride Report-!Exclusive!

    Tour de Cupcake
TDC is an alleycat style race designed for riders of all type (Part race, part cupcake eating contest, and part scavenger hunt!

Cathy and I showed up a little late and it was crowded, crazy and cold!

The race was delayed due to printed instructions were late from the printers. I met up with Henry “BlastRadius” and we got a little impatient so we took of early…Not to try and win necessarily but to document and get some cupcakes!

Cathy was freezing and not feeling like doing all the distance, so we decided to start the course backwards in my usual non logical approach. As soon as I read the locations my CabDriver/BikeMessenger mind took over and I had it figured out in 10 seconds, so we split.
    1. Any city library for a search on cupcake chefs and the first name of the first cupcake chef to come up. We went to Civic Center Public Library and just took a picture. It was freezing cold and one of us would have to have stayed with the bikes outside.
    2. Off to Fillmore and Union to retrieve a business card and “pay” for a couple of cupcakes.
    3. Fort Mason was next and we wasted a little time checking out the merchant locations, when the cupcakes were actually on the green out in the open. Free cupcakes and they were good…Chocolate!...
    4. Next we dropped off Cathy, she was getting beat up trying to chase Henry and I around. Off to the Embarcadero and the Bow and Arrow sculpture. Unfortunately no cupcakes left, so frosting on the fingers would have to do!
    5. On to 4th and Bryant to a store front window to get a name of a Cupcake chef off the menu tacked up in a window.
    6. One more trip with Henry…He had family duties to attend to. We went to Trader Joes in SOMA where I ran in to get an ingredient of the box of vanilla cakemix. “bourbon alcohol”. Then it was time for us to part ways and I went on to the next stop.
    7. 17th and Wisconsin street…No cakes!...so got my paper signed and split.
    8. Next off to the hardest chore. I had to climb up to the top of State street on my SS Centurion…OWWW! That was really tough and no cupcakes! : (
    9. On to Fell and Masonic in the Pan handle…No cupcakes!
    10. Finally to Alamo square and no pancakes. Man that sucked! I hung out for a little and interviewed some hipsters and checked out bikes then headed home with another grand race notch in my belt!
    11. Final tally:
    …: 1 cupcake I had to buy
    …. 1 free cupcake.
…. 1 finger full of frosting
…. Nothing else but an experience to hang on to forever…

No wonder you didn't get many cupcakes, there were probably more sets of Deep Vs there than there were cupcakes in the first place.

    Looks like fun, though.

I did this on my Colnago. It was crazy! There were 470 people there; these races usually draw 100 max but the cupcakes angle really boosted the popularity. I saw all kinds of cyclists there. That guy in the Sharks jersey got DFL with a time of 3+ hours! He won a new cassette. First place finishers did the course in well under an hour. There was also an award for most cupcakes consumed, one guy ate 23 without barfing...

My time was just under 2 hours, minus whatever deductions I got from eating cupcakes (not much, cupcakes were scarce)

It was a great time. I haven't done an alleycat in 2 or 3 years. It was too cold to be hanging around for an extra hour waiting for the manifests to be printed so we took off early. To be fair, who could expect 470 people coming out for the race.

Stripes... sorry we missed you... I definitely would have noticed a Colnago. There was a lot of bike pr0n to be seen though

Yeah, I'm one of the dudes in the photos. Thanks again for posting these Pete. I'm pretty sure that the guy who ate the most cupcakes got a custom IRO frame. Sweet prizes. Who is doing the Halloween Trickster Treat alleycat on the 31st? It's also to sponsor Bike Kitchen so it'd be good to come along for some fun. I went last year and it was a BLAST.

Yeah you guys are quite "photogenic" Do you have a link to the ride? I think our NorCal bunch here is going to have a Halloween/Critical Mass turnout...BTW welcome to the Forum. I had fun Sunday, but it was really friggin cold after being in the temperate Central Valley all day Saturday.

Hey I remember "the loin". He did the t-shirts for the Fools Gold Rush alleycat a few years back.
Good to see he's still at it. Do you hang out on sffixed.com?

I was in a corner of the parking lot. It got unbelievably crowded. Here's what I was riding:

I saw one guy on a Guerciotti cross bike with a NorCal jersey. Was that you?
Pete, I saw you heading up to Alamo Square as I was leaving.

It was a great race, the staff was overwhelmed, but I think everybody had a good time.
As I mentioned above, I finished in a little under 2 hours. I would have been faster but I spent ten minutes or so helping another rider with a mechanical issue.

That was me. I'd just done the cross race at McClaren Park and had a slow leak in my front tire, so I kept going back to the pumps to top off. I think I did see you and your Colnago. Let's ride sometime.

Hey, I think that those are the ones to last years trickster treat. I'm fairly certain the flyer that I just got did not say it was starting at the Bow and Arrow. I'll find it when I go home and start a new thread with the info so people don't think all this is still about the cupcakes!

Ok, for those who still are looking at this thread, the correct info is here...
