Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The mixer is used for mixing ingredients and the first kneading. Everything else is done by hand.

Time for chili with fresh-baked bread and some stout.

My wounds are healing. Pretty mild for road rash.

What's amazing is I was wearing a long sleeve shirt when it happened. The wounds on my shoulder, covered by the shirt, are worse than the ones on my knee, where there was nothing covering and it was skin on asphalt.

Must have been an abrasive shirt.

KitchenAid Basic White Bread
Source: the Kitchen Aid Mixers and Attachments Book

1/2 cup milk
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 packages active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water 105f - 115f
5-6 cups all purpose flour

Combine milk, sugar, salt and butter in small saucepan. Heat over low heat until butter melts and sugar dissolves. Cool to lukewarm.

Dissolve yeast in warm water in warmed bowl. Add lukewarm milk mixture and 4 1/2 cups flour.

Attach bowl and dough hook. Turn to speed 2 and mix 1 minute.

Continuing on Speed 2, add remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until dough clings to hook and cleans sides of bowl. Knead on Speed 2 for 2 minutes longer, or until dough is smooth and elastic. Dough will be slightly sticky to the touch.

Place in a greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover; let rise in warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.

Punch dough down and divide in half,. Shape each half into a loaf and place in a greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch loaf pan. Cover; let rise in warm place free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.

Bake at 400F for 30 minutes. Remove from pans immediately and cool on wire racks.

Makes 2 loaves.

I had the same thing happen when I crashed last fall. I had roadrash on every joint on my right side, except my knee. Everything else was covered up except my elbow, and wrist, that were also rashed. Funny thing is, no clothing was torn, but all kinds of flesh was underneath. I think it is more how you hit the ground than if it was covered or not. How did u crash? My hip and ankle are still bruised/scared, and it was from before thanksgiving.

Mrs. RJ is cooking some cake tonight as well. This snow needs to go away, so I can ride more.

Maybe he's sulking in his tent, because the weather gods did not consult with him before sending rain and 50 degree weather to K-town.

I was just doing a slow cruise around the park on a nice day after adjusting a bunch of things and testing the fit. I went around a corner pretty slowly but hit a patch of gravel and the bike slid out from under me. My shirt wasn't torn or anything. It was a lycra sailing shirt and didn't suffer any damage, but underneath my shoulder got banged up.

nope.

Consequently I do not understand why you would post this, just hours after I hazarded through millions of retweets and hash tags to reach out to you on Twitter. You can't get much farther away from shunning than that.

I have not been posting because I was serving a three-day posting suspension. No parole in Camp BiFo.
