Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not sure-- I don't actually do that many road rides with the club so I may not have been there (we're up to 200+ members now!)-- they tend to conflict with my track schedule. What do you ride? I'm on a dirty old red trek 5000 with a red taillight.

Last night was rough with a pregnant wife and baby both with colds. I managed to get out for a ride around 10am when they both fell asleep. I tried to catch up with you guys out around Valley Circle. But I think you were out to far. Anyways, there was no way that I could have gone out to TO. As it was, I got the "look" when I came in after an 2 hour ride. Sorry I couldn't make it...

I looked for you guys but there were only about 700 guys on bikes out there! (500 from the early charity ride alone). My pix are in the road racing forum. I was settled just down the street from the finish line where the riders turned to the right to execute the laps. The team follow cars were going around the corners so fast to keep up that the tires were smoking and screeching.

Did you catch the Mavic car with all of the wheelsets on top?

Fixer... Thanks for the pics. Are there any more? BTW I ride at the front because I have a butt like a bus - easy to draft off of. Or so I've been told. lol Actually I was just excited to be riding someplace new.

Hey, great shots! Many of those pix, taken I believe on Mureau, Las Virgenes and Agoura Road, are the route I use when I commute to work, generally once a week starting later in the Spring through the end of summer. (I work in West Hills up Valley Circle and live in Agoura, off Kanan). I'm really fortunate to live in such a bike friendly area. We have some awesome rides.

Mureau-- On the way out - Ovoleg and I flew down! On the way back - That is the street that Worker4Youth decided to put in some space off the front! Caught up at the signal though. It is wonderful riding in that area. Lots of bikes on the road that day!

Ovoleg, thanks for reeling me for the last 10 miles --- it was a good ride. worker4youth, sshakari, Nosra, Fixer and Del --- nice ride. We'll get another group ride in before summer. PCH, Hollywood Hills, Malibu Canyon, Ventura County??

For a nice ride through Ventura County, come sign up for Cruising the Conejo in May. The Century has about 6000 of climbing. I did it as my first one last year.

If you guys want to do a good one in our area before then, let me know. I may not be as fast as you but can hang at the back of the pack if I'm lucky!

Cruising the Conejo is a sponsored ride in our area with various routes on May 13th, I believe. You can find it at www.cvcbike.org

As to other offerings, if anyone wants to do some fun rides in the Conejo, let me know. Depending upon my family commitments, (ie; the wife and 11 year old daughter) I try to get a few hours in most weekends. Unlike you single guys, I don't get all day to ride!

Myself, I have several routes of 25-45 miles I play at. One I like is a climb up Mullholland past Rock Store, over the top and down Encinal, back up Decker/Mullholland, down Westlake and then if I have the time, Hidden Valley to Newbury Park and back to Agoura. That ride has several thousand feet of climbs and works out to about 40+ miles, I think. I'm no super climber so doing the huge inclines around the Santa Monica's isn't for me. In any event, if there is some interest in putting together a Spring BF ride, post it up. Be fun to have some company one day.

Sheldon

The weather last year was great. It had been coolish and overcast all week. The skies cleared that morning and temps topped out in the high 70's. We had pretty good headwinds of 15-20+ when we dropped down into Camarillo however that became tail winds when we turned up Santa Rosa. All in all, a terrific ride for my first Century. I finished it in 7 hr 10 min of seat time, not bad for all that climbing. If that's a pace you ride at, let me know and I'll watch for you.
