S3X hubs at last - bikes and wheels on the way

I know a lot of people are interested in the new S3X fixed-gear 3-speed hub
And I know some people think it has taken so long that it is SA vapor-wear

However, the bikes and wheelsets that we ordered using this hub have been built and are on the way. So I know it is out of protype stage and production has taken off.

I hope to see production 'samples' by air in a day or two AND to have complete Kilo S3X bikes and S3X wheelsets within 30 days

This hub should be a very fun product and good for lots of cyclists.

~~~~~~~~~
Now I have the pictures - bikes should go on the site soon
wheels will go on bikeisland later
~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~
STARRY BLUE is really nice
I think STARRY GRAY and STARRY YELLOW will be great too
Forth Color is MATT BLACK
Thanks for the update dude. I'm interested to know how the production run turns out. Take lots of close-ups! I'm really curious about whether they kept the splined and threaded driver design.
Any chance of rear only?
Any chance of lacing it to mtb rims as well as road rims?
A fixed gear hub. Same idea as the ASC but different internal ratios. Do a Google search as there has been a lot of discussion both here and on the web.
Sheldon Brown never really got around to building my ASC hub for my Raleigh Twenty. Sturmey Archer had the stupid idea of building them with a non-standard 40 hole thread! Hopefully, they've learned their lesson with the S3X hub.
Part of me is interested in these, but the other part is balking at the inevitable and substantial weight increase. IIRC, most IGHs weigh upwards of 1000g.
Not that I need another track bike, but the extra two hundred for the frame/fork/components may be worth it.
Regardless, I'm picking up a wheelset for sure. I can't wait to see how it works on my Fantom Uno with studded tires and frozen roads, trails, lakes, streams, etc.
Soooooooooo excited
just wanted to throw out that the kilo tt seems like a terrible frame for this hub to go on. The tt seems to me at least very track oriented, minimalistic, light and quick. The S3X hub is none of these things. It is a very practical hub for commuting in bad weather or unpredictable weather like we are having now. It also seems like it would be a great tool to make a polo or trick bike into a practical commuter as well. I would love one of these hubs for the versatility, something which the tt is not known for. Throw this hub built up on an Uno or a WT though and I would be on it like white on rice.
It would certainly be a shame to waste the weight savings most of us have accumulated on carbon frames/wheels/cranks etc. Oh wait...
The rim is the Alex Sub [I think] and the hub is for sure a precision bearing high flange
not the SA hub; actually a bit nicer
as soon as production samples come in; I will picture and bikeisland can list wheels on pre-sale and bikesdirect can list bikes on prebook
i hope UPS shows up with the samples by air today
Our first order on S3X was used for Kilo TT type setup - which is a good bike and a low price
If everyone likes the hub; we will do next year on a KILO WT and a Fantom Cross UNO type setup up
I do have Kilo WT5 coming; which is 5 speed internal with barcon [but not fixed gear]
I think internal hubs on street/track/road type bikes will be very popular in the future
And right now our Cafe Express3 and Cafe Express8 commuter bikes are selling great online and in stores
Answer: Skids will break them. Maybe not the first time, but over time.
Solution: Just run a front brake and don't ride like you are in an MASHSF video and you'll be fine.
I have built up a couple of drop bar steel road frames with IGH. One is a Steelwool Tweed with Shimano Alfine hub and Jtek bar end shifter. The other is an old Duracycle track style frame, road geometry, with a SRAM 5 speed hub and Hubbub mounted twist shifter. I also have Sachs Torpedo 3 speed and FG wheels for the Duracycle. May well get the S3X wheelset for it too.
