Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Photos: DCC Ride 04/16/2005 Chicago

A ride of epic sorts, dodging through traffic in the thick of the downtown shopping masses, taking up lanes and terrorizing the pedestrians who'd cross against the walk sign anyway. To the lakefront path with breakaway packs and lost groups of riders here and there as traffic, cops and pedestrians got in the way. We still all caught up at the end of the ride. A good ride with good people and good times.

The crew at 2pm:

After the crazy breakaways and running though mass traffic and losing a rider or two to work and other things, we convened and I made people pose.

Opening up some beverages, alcoholic and none.

Laid up, laid back.

Allan is saying something. I think.

In the stone circle, a trackstand competition, mini-velodrome grass racing begins.

New gladiator enters the ring!

The crowd watches on...

Josh/165 enters on the randonneur-er!

And decides that ballet is better as he shows off his foot technique.

what about the picture of stickerguy picking up his penis enlarger he left there the night before and trying to stash it in al5's bag because he didn't want the 'extra grams'?

i have a test on monday but screw it. education is overrated . . .

i'll throw in a maybe for next weekend, but a definitely for next-next weekend (the 30th).

as long as it involves, at some point, basking in the sun and drinking something. i can fit 4-5 six packs (bottles) in my bag. and i want to race someone. preferably stickerguy but anyone in general. we could do time trials down the bus route from randolph to cermak. yeah ... race ... please ...

Next-next weekend sounds good to me. I believe I'll be moving into my new place this weekend.

Val - the race sounds good. I think we should do a small trials within the DCC. Maybe we can have a pot - we each throw in 5 bucks and winner takes all.

Different events:
1) Trackstand contest
2) Skids
3) mini-alleycat

i'm foaming at the mouth in anticipation.

we could actually organize a real alleycat this summer, now that we're sorta official and semi-known (at least by marcus). that could be fun ...

Chris - Harley's a good guy. He regaled me with small tales of the CO crew. Gotta make it out there sometime.

And that Leader - interesting after the headset issues. But damn, that bike is light as all heck.

i can't believe how light it is either, especially for the size.

you and josh should seriously come out here. this summer or fall? track season ends in september i believe... the denver midnight classic would be a great bike event to catch as well. eric and i have three full size couches, and one 'love seat' if you're feeling disgusting.

I always feel disgusting - ask my doctor.

If I show up, will you have a samurai sword I can use?

I want to be one of the cool DCC people. Is it possible to be part of DCC, but never have lived in Chicago? I'm starting the Cambridge chapter! It will be called the DCCC (the Dirty Chicago (or Cambridge) Crew. DCC vs. DCCC in '06? What do you think? (I figure it will take that long to organize an event where everyone meets halfway between Cambridge and Chicago.)

Thanks for posting those pics. I don't know any of the riders involved, but it's nice to see people out and about on their bikes. Looks like you guys had a fun time.

Yeah, great ride, even if we didn't do a whole lot of riding it was a blast just to hang with people.
I would be up for doing something later on saturday as well - I'm working until 4 but would be able to be up there by 5:30 or so, maybe 6 if I ride from 55th but I'll only do that if everyone is getting together later.

A DCC competition serious sounds excellent. I better work on my no-handed no-footed blindfolded trackstands.
Also, there should be foot-down. Can't forget that.

cue the bickering on date, time & place. i'll be over here taking a nap until it all
gets figured out.

first person who guesses which numbered post contains the first instance the date, time & place of the next dcc meeting appears will get either a hug or a pepsi (their choice). oh and yeah that last sentence was a bit complex but you get what i mean.
