I'm thinking about buying a used Giant Cadex 2 mountain bike for $180.00. It has a carbon fiber frame, and I've read a lot about how these can break and eviscerate you as you fly past the jagged ends.

However, I would just be riding it on dirt roads -- I discovered maybe 100 miles of them in the county where I live this past weekend -- and not bouncing down a mountain at a zillion miles an hour.

For that use is this a prudent purchase?
