Narrowed my choice down to 2
I narrowed my choice of a new bike down to 2, the Raleigh Cadent 4 at $799.99 (Raleigh Bicycles - Cadent 4) and the Specialized Sirrus Elite Disc at $990.00 (Specialized Bicycle Components). Both fit into my budget and have the 2 features I was really looking for, a carbon fork and hydraulic disc brakes. I am new to cycling and I do not know the difference in the quality of the rest of the components. Can anyone tell me what appears to be the best deal and which choice they would make? Really just looking for a good investment in a quality fitness bike, to continue to help me lose weight and one that will last me a long time. Currently riding a Raleigh Venture 3.0 comfort bike. Thanks all

The Raleigh would be my choice.
in my opinion, Raleigh has a great line up of really nice bikes, and Raleigh styling is very attractive.

1 vote for the specialized. It has that e5 frame and sora components. Looks sharp too.
I actually think it's a great bike value for under a grand.
But as always, how the bike feels and fits is more important that features

You may find dealers discount the specialized down from MSRP, so the price difference may not be as much. The Specialized has slightly better components and should be noticeably lighter, but you need to test ride them.

If you plan to do hills, you may find that 26T cog on the Raleigh helpful -- at least as you're building up your strength. The Specialized only goes down to 32T on the crank. Other than that, the major component difference seems to be the derailleurs. Are those worth an extra $190 to you? For what it's worth, I like the look of the Raleigh better, but that's purely a personal preference.

My vote goes to the Sirrus. I was at the LBS yesterday. They had one of the red ones of these. It was way better looking in person than in pictures. I like the components it has, but this is highly my personal preference. You need to ride both and make your own chose as to what you want to ride!

Not really an answer to your question, but that Spesh has a very interesting crankset... 48/32T with 110mm BCD. I thought it wasn't possible to get less than 33T with 110 mm BCD. For some reason, I can't find anything on the web about this crank..

I did research on hydraulic brake. I read more complexity and more maintenance. Whats your thought on this?

It most likely uses a 110/74 BCD as a double. This allows a wider choice of small chainrings, such as a 28/40 setup

If you're going discs, go hydraulic - unless you're limited by levers or ride in extreme cold

When Chrysler came out with hydraulic brakes for cars, they said they would never catch on, because they were too costly and complicated. Didn't make any difference, how good they were................
