Brompton Hack for Cateye Volt 300
Hi all,
I recently bought a Cateye 300 front light and mounted it on the handlebars using the stock mount. However, when folded, it would stick out laterally, increasing the folded size. Also, when folding down the handlebar, the front of the light would hit the spokes of the front wheel (sorry, no pictures).
I saw that there was a custom mount to place the light just above the front fender, but it was difficult to source (and would not be cheap, including shipping, anyway):
What I've done is to remove the stock front deflector, and bend the holding wire to an appropriate angle (this took quite a bit of hammering and elbow grease) and then fit the Cateye Volt 300 to the bent wire. I'm pleased with the result and it seems to be sturdy enough, so I thought I'd share this here for those who have similar lights, as those custom mounts can be hard/expensive to procure.
Note: although it seems in the picture that the wire is in contact with the front brake calipers, it does not, in fact, touch them.

Keep a sharp eye on the wire mount; with the vibration of riding the wire sees a huge amount of vibration which can lead to stress cracks. Happened twice to me; I put a rubber piece underneath that touched the brake structure to limit vibration.
