Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My New GUNNAR [largish pics]

The wait is over. I saved my dough, researched bikes, put in an order, and now it's finally here---my Gunnar Sport. Hope you all don't mind me sharing. I picked the bike up this weekend and took the first ride yesterday. Such a smooth ride. And almost two pounds lighter than my Giant OCR2, despite the fact the new ride is steel. Feels like an upgrade in every way.

The Ritchey stem is a loaner until I make sure of the size and decide on a model. I considered a Thomson stem to match the seatpost, but its bigger size would look out of place next to the narrow tubes of the frame. And I'm waiting on a set of Crank Bros Quattro pedals to arrive.

I also pretty happy with my timing, since Gunnar just announced they're changing the Sport frame, and I like the current design better than the upcoming one.

Very cool contrast between the green of the frame and the orange of the handlebar tape!

Should be easy for motorist to see you!

*WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH* I'm still waiting for my custom Rock Tour from them. I do like that little doggie Gunnar logo. Much better, IMO, than the name decal.

Congrats! Beautiful bike - although no close-ups, looks like the welds are very clean also. Have a great time...

Whoa, that's a sweet bike. Really clean, really sharp. The color combo is a definite winner IMO.

That's an interesting angle on the seatpost. What kind is it?

Is this bike custom? if so why is there a set-back seatpost on it?

Great looking bike and I like the colors as well. I have a custom Sport on order as well, with the new frame and steel fork. I am taking a bit of a different route (Campy components and black frame, silver accents) but will still have the wonderful Gunnar quality and ride. Should ship 5/25 according to an email today.....the wait is a killer.

Nice color combination.

Gunnar's are great bikes - mine is metallic purple, built with Dura Ace. I like it a lot, quick looking yet classic. Enjoy your new ride.

Actually, it's stock geometry from Gunnar, so the frame itself isn't custom. The post is one I previously had on a bike. Though I typically have trouble getting my saddle back far enough (longish upper legs), I shouldn't need to stick with the setback on this one.
