You guys might look at this differently if you still ride when you are nearly 60 years old.

I ride a fixed gear bike with stoker bars like these, except turned the right way. Weather permitting, I ride it about 100 mi/wk. Looks to me like the backwards placement of the bars would limit your leverage for climbing.
...nearly 60 years old?? I'm 71 and didn't start riding fixed until I was nearly 60 years old.

We have few hills here in Indiana, except for very steep, short hills around our sand dunes. I'm running 38x15 gearing with an SRAM Automatix 2 speed, giving me gear inches of 67" and 92" with 28 mm tires. I've not found one hill that I can't climb with this setup.
Great that you are riding, I plan to do the same as long as I can. I had to take ~ 9 months off of riding due to my quadruple bypass surgery last year. Now I feel as strong as I ever have on the bike.

Unless I mounted them with the open ends facing forward? HMMM?

There's always gonna be haters, purists, perfectionists, etc. At the end of the day as long as you're safe, happy and enjoying your cycling, I don't see anything wrong with it, even if I wouldn't use that particular setup myself.

agreed, i am fairly new to the forums and single speeds/fixed gear riding. i love the tinkering and experimenting with my bikes especially for comfort, and was intrigued by his idea. i get numbness in my arms after 10 miles on my bull horns, and don’t enjoy the flat bars ride so i’m going to flip them over and try it. ya ******!

This particular handlebar phenomenon seems to be contagious. Of all places, this pic just popped up in a vintage steel bike group that I follow, and amazingly - they did not crucify it. Go figure
