I Ride More Before 9 AM Than...

I do after 9 AM. Any othe early riders? I almost always leave at sunrise every morning, even before during the winter. Yesterday i had 60 miles in before 9 AM. Today only 34. I must be officially old now, since i now concur with all of the "old folks" who say that early morning is the best time of day.

I try to get in my rides before 9, last long ride I did I started at 6:30 am, knowing the day was going to get hot, got back around 11:30, makes it nices because you still have the rest of the day to do what you want.

I never ride much AFTER 9:00 AM. Sunrise start is best, although there are plenty of serious riders in Ft. Lauderdale who start before dawn. I have the luxury of flexibility so I try to get out as soon as the sun is up. Traffic is best for riding here early. Plus it's cooler out.

I have young kids though so school issues etc. sometimes forces me to change things a bit. If I'm too late in the day, I just punt and do a trainer ride.

My riding group starts at 6am on weekends (and sometimes earlier) this time of year so people can do other things like go to 9am baseball games with their kids. During the week they start at 5:30am for a 20-25 mile ride before work. Yesterday I rode 40 miles starting at 6am, had leisurely coffee time with the boys, and was home by 9:30 ready to tackle the day's chores/events.

For the past year I was getting out at 7:00am on the dot every day....It was great! Now my work situation has changed and I'm in the office by 7:00am...so.....I bought a 15w cygolight and a Petzl Headlamp and now I ride everyday from 8:00 - 9:30pm.... Just as GREAT!

As a side note, I went out today with my brother-in-law at 9:00am....and the MUP had so many people on it ...that it was not enjoyable....I'll stick with the early morning or late night rides, where I get the 30 mile stretch all to myself!

Yep ditto...less soccer moms and construction vehicles to deal with then. Gotta watch out for those pesky dog walkers though.

Not me. I don't have the mental focus that early. I am late afternoon/evening rider only. I tried some dh last year bright and freaking early and almost killed myself on the way down. I just pedalled home and had some coffee and went back up 5 hours later, good to go then...

I love to ride early. I got a 34 miler in before 7:30am. Then mowed my 4 acres of lawn by 11:00am.

The rest of today is for myself.

Wait maybe another ride?

I like to do my early morning rides. You can avoid the most people this way.

Before I had to go back to working at the bike shop on weekends I was out the door by 7 for my weekly centuries. Now I am on the road by 6 for my 16 mile commute to work. Early morning really is a great time to ride. I had one job that to make it to work on time I would roll out at 5 AM in the dead of winter, those were some beautiful rides.

Well, I get off work at 3am so that's normally when I ride. I'm never up before 3:30pm and seldom in bed before 6am. You'll never see me getting up at 7am or some other asinine hour to go riding. I prefer to ride at night. Not to mention if I did 60 miles on my MTB, I'd be gone 5+ hrs at least. I did 40 miles last week and averaged 13mph over some pretty hilly terrain. I started at like 7pm and got home around 11 or so. Stopped and ate twice

Saturdays and Sundays we ride at first light, right now that's about 6:05 AM. We get thirty or more in before anyone else in the houses gets out of bed. Leaves plenty of time for family. This morning we did fifty miles, stopped halfway for a quick coffee and biscuit, and were still in by 10 AM.
Weekdays the traffic patterns around here won't allow safe riding before 9:30 AM.

Last monday I had 80 miles in before 9 AM. Morning is the only way to go here this time of year. I usually get 24 miles in every morning before 9 on my commute so I do a lot of early morning riding. The time just before sunrise is the best as most drivers are still sawing logs and the roads are empty and free for cycling enjoyment!
