Forum is embedding links in page text.

Usually I see this kind of thing on forums where I'm not a member, but I'm pretty sure I'm paid up here. Is anyone else seeing this?

Thanks.

Yes! And it's light red/orange text with underlines and it's very annoying. I generally don't read sites that embed these links because they are so distracting. I hope this is not intentional :-/

Very annoying... ads that are linked are more or less irrelevant to this group...at least the ones I am seeing. Can't imagine why they are appearing.

There is an external JAVA Script Site called infolinks.com that seems to be bringing in the hot links. The site only shows up if you allow JAVA from GoogleTagManager.com.

Block one or both of the external sites, and the hot links don't show up.

I noticed it too. One really annoying part was when I went to my profile and tried to click on the tab that says Statistics... if I clicked on the word Statistics it rerouted me to junk... I had to pay attention and click on the tab itself and not on the word Statistics.

Reported it last night, very annoying to see those yellow/orange links that are pretty much worthless. Bummer when we are paid up, and then an outside agency steps in and ruins things for us.

Bill

Seeing as there is a testimonial from an IB rep on the Infolinks homepage, I suspect this is intentional. What a shame that no notification was given to us, kind of defeats the purpose of a paid membership. The IB statement is that its less intrusive to its readers, bull.

Turned off java script under "site settings" in chrome... seemed to fix it.

Aha, that worked for me! Thanks.

Chrome settings->Advanced->Content settings->JavaScript->add bikeforums.net to blocked list:

That is, I go into 'settings' in Chrome; to 'content settings' and then to 'Java' and i block it?

Hmm. At first that didn't work... but a few minutes later, the orange crap disappeared.

You have to refresh after you make the change to your browser.

Ultimately, however, I suspect this is a host issue and BF will fix it.

I use a utility called "NoScript". It allows one to selectively choose which scripts to allow and which to block. It is a bit of a pain to configure as many websites lose functionality the first time one opens them, and one has to choose which scripts to turn back on.

It's a host issue. The BF host computer has the infolinks adware installed on it. The problem with turning off java is that good content uses it, too. Meanwhile, it's unsightly, but doesn't do any harm. Come on, admins, let's get that fixed! If you don't know how, ask me.

Shutting off java script worked for my phone. Safari is my browser for both my laptop and phone so I am headed to the lt next. I am not very computer- ese fluent, by turning java script off what will I be missing? Feel free to PM me if you have some information, rather than taking up time and space here.

I usually leave Java on for the actual website (www.bikeforums.net). Editing may change. I just shut down BF Java, and am seeing HTML code show up in the editing box rather than BB code which is interesting.

Many of the quick buttons on the editing header also are not working properly. Likewise, buttons like Ctrl-B and Ctrl-I are not working properly.

If you can just block scripts from infolinks.com & GoogleTagManager.com, then the Bike Forums editor should work properly, and you probably won't notice other adverse effects.

When I submitted (without previewing), I also lost several of my returns, and got a run-on paragraph.

Some websites (Netflix, Youtube) will be completely broken with JavaScript turned off, some will be partially broken (and this could be good - most of the ads will simply disappear), and some websites will work fine.

You can use more than one browser (e.g. 1 Safari and 1 Chrome), one with javascript off and one with it on. Use the one with JavaScript turned off, and when you come across a website that doesn't work, then use browser with JavaScript turned on for that site. This is a PITA - there's no easy solution to this problem.

@CliffordK and @tyrion, thanks much for your input, my iPhone has only the option to shut javascript off, or leave it turned on. If I have trouble with several sites I will look further into this quirk. I never visit much other than BF on my phone, a little bit of time at ebay is about it. As I said, I am not a real tech literate guy at all.

I can set up a second browser easily, but I want to see how I am doing with just blocking infolinks.com and GoogleTagManager.com. Appreciate the suggestion and assistance.

Ok so It appears this feature should not be showing for users who are logged in. We are attending to this.
