Derailleur and Dropout snapped!
I was riding yesterday, and I went off a 2 foot drop and my derailleur got cought in my spokes and got pulled right up and snapped the drop out. How much would a new one cost? I'll try to get pics in if I can.

The guy at our LBS called it the "drop out", it's this metal thing that holds the derailleur...

Sounds like it's just the hanger.
Yep - carry a spare. Depending on the type, make sure you have a smaller hex-head wrench (allen key) that fits the screws of some hangers with you as well.

On my yeti, the dropouts are removeable/replaceable, and the hangar is built in. Its really thick and doesnt bend easily at all. Ive never gotten it out of alignment.

Keeping a spare could be handy indeed! Once I had a stick get through the spokes of my bike and as the wheel turned the stick, it wedge itself on the frame (oposite the derailer), as one side was stationary the other side (derailer side) rotated and caught the derailer and simply swung it back, up, and around the cassette. Needless to say time I had bent it back, to ride back out of the trail, I only had about three gears it could reach!

hangers run around $20 although since there are so many different tyupes lots on shops will only stock the most common ones for the bikes the sell. I've never carried a spare, althouhg I have bent them before and had to use some different gears. I bent it back once sucessfully, but the second time it bent It snaped.

Jason is that wat happened to my schwinn too? except mine just bent? I took it and hammered it back into place, it's bound to be extremly weak now!

I carry a spare. I usually order two at a time. That way I'll always have a spare. They are really light, so carrying it in my Camelback is non noticible. I think I paid like $10 each for mine.
