Actually, I think you can call them anything you want.
I call them STI's since that's what the manufacturer calls them.

"Brifter" sounds cool. "shakeyness" is not a property you want any part of your bike to have, so why name a part a quality you don't want?

Ohhhhhhh.... I got you... I'm a little slow. I guess its the same thing with "sporks". Most people say Fork then Spoon, like "Fork and spoon", so when they're combined into one product, you'd want to say the last product first. "Brifters" sounds good...
