i may be breaking a *cardinal rule* of posting here; i am not sure if this is only for advice or discussion or what have you...in any case, i'm a newbie rider in oakland (three weeks) and i'm looking for people to ride with and work on my bike with...girls would be super since i am one, too, but it don't much matter...i know about critical mass which i may go to...and i know there are some more advanced rides going on in my parts...but i'm lookin' more low-key right now...learning, falling, crumbling to the ground from severe knee pain after a good ride...any advice?

Terror_in_pink sounds like the obvious answer, she's a girl, and she likes to work on her bike and she's in Oakland, but I don't know if she's looking for riding partners. Maybe if you expressed an interest in beating up thieving bums with her.
Otherwise, you're more than welcome to come riding with us in SF. We usually ride around on Saturdays, but there's rarely any girls in our group.

sparkle, i'm in Oakland, sure we've seen eachother, i have a red bike and red wheels. I ride up and down Telegraph everyday and frequent the finest dive bars and warehouse shows. Say hi or PM if you want to ride.

it is pretty fast! i can hack it if they don't sprint, eventhough i'm pushing myself the whole way, but once those guys start sprinting is when i drop out and say "**** that" those boys are all pretty damn fast and they're all pretty damn rad too. Props to the Montano Crew, you guys own. Represent Oakland at the alleycat this Friday. i'll be dropping in the following week.

no dis intended toward Montano Velo. I love that place. it's the only bike store around here that seems to encourage hanging out. I'm proud to call it my local.
also no dis intended toward jim-bob's grandma.

pm means 'private message', click on tip's name and you should get a little box w/ links in it, one of which will let you send her a message.
if you have a pm, you'll see a notification in the top-right part of your screen.

sparkle, to send someone a PM, or "private message", click on their name in a thread like this. You will get a little menu, choose "Send private message to ___"
That will send them something like an email, but they will know they have a message by what appears at the top right corner of any page on this site. Up in the right corner, it says
Welcome, sparkle_11
You last visited: 08-10-05 at 12:20 PM
Private Messages: 0 Unread, Total 0.
Only, those numbers will be different, and you just click on "Private Messages" to read them.
