caught my first 'wave' yesterday --whee!

(Didn't know if I should put this in the Commuting, SS, or Roadie forum, so it's here)

I was on my way back to the apt last night, and since I just moved to a new part of town I have to ride on more crowded 'downtown' streets. Well, I got a chance to pull in behind a little GRTC bus as it pulled away from a stop, and whee! I caught every bit of its slipstream, and I got sucked up to 20mph like THAT!. I pulled out right then, as I hadn't done it before and didn't feel terribly comfortable being that close to a large purple wall. Good thing, too, as we were coming up on a red light MAN that was fun!

That's some cool stuff. I caught a van on Rock Creek parkway once what seemed interested in giving a draft. He motioned me with his hand, so I hopped on. That section of Beach Drive went by quick at 32mph! Not as good of a draft as a bus, but still not bad. I'd only do it on a road that I knew was pothole-free though. Nothing like having a surprise jump out from behind the vehicle at you.

Yeah, I realized pretty quickly that I had lost all sense of safety when I hopped on, which is why I jumped right back off. Those 10-15 seconds were heaven! (still talking about the bike, folks, sheesh )
