Help with suspension upgrade on Fuel 70

I picked up a Trek Fuel 70 this year with the intension of upgrading it as money allows. I am now ready to perform my first upgrade. I am thinking about either getting a new shock or forks. It has a Manitou Axel fork and a RockShox Bar shock.

I have done a search and haven’t seen many topics covering this area. I thought I saw a topic about suspension fork upgrades a while ago but couldn’t find it today. I am looking to spend around $300. Does anyone have any suggestions on which one to upgrade first, or what products to look at?
