Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Modern Classic - my new De Rosa (warning: large pics)

Hi all,

Well, got the bike itch once again and decided to have a steel bike built up. I came super-close to building up a Cervelo SuperProdigy (bought the frameset) but decided in the end that a classic-styled frame is what I really wanted. I'm sure the SuperProdigy would have ridden nicely, but it had to go. It was quickly replaced with a 2004 De Rosa Neo Primato in Molteni orange colour. I also wanted to outfit the bike with some classic Campagnolo C-Record parts, while using modern Ergopower shifting (don't like friction, and Campy's Syncro shifting was horrible). Here's the parts build-up.

De Rosa Neo Primato lugged steel frame, carbon blades fork with cromoly steerer
C-Record crankset with 9-speed chainrings
C-Record front derailleur
C-Record Delta brake calipers
Record 9 Ergopower shift/brake levers
Record 8 rear derailleur with 9-speed pulleys
Record C9 chain
Record carbon seatpost
Record headset and bottom
Veloce 9-speed cassette
Campagnolo Neutron wheelset
Vredestein Fortezza Tri-Comp tires
Selle San Marco Regal Girardi saddle
ITM Millenium stem
3A carbon handlebars

Now, just to make it clear, the purpose of this bike is not performance-oriented. This is a bike for my leisurely rides. Strictly emotional and nostalgic. I took it out on its first ride a few days ago and this thing is smooth (maybe the silky tires had something to do with it ). I still need to get used to it as I'm used to riding a Calfee with 650c Zipps (VERY different ride). This is the third steel bike since I began riding many years ago. I have other great rides but this De Rosa is the most beautiful of them all.

Okay, I don't venture into the "check out my new ride" threads (mostly because of my insane jealousy! ) but that is one beautiful bike! I really like the mix of old and new. Very cool.

Gorgeous bike. Those C-Record Delta brakes are real head turners. Here's some history on them for those that don't already know.

Gorgeous. Only thing I would change is put sewups on it,
bike like that deserves something like Clement Seta Silks. . .

That is bloody beautiful. My Cervelo Prodigy rides really nicely, but I'd swap it in a heartbeat for one of these. Good choice.

I am wondering the same thing. How could you risk scratching such a beautiful bike. I just dont think i could pay this much and see it be harmed. I guess that is why I ride steel frame with 105.
