going to big bear
going mountain biking in big bear. Yay! mostly XC and dirt jumping, but we'll see. i'll tell you guys how it went when i get back

I'm going there this weekend. Have not been there since last season.
What are the new rules for the chairlifts? (If any)
I was told no dual crown bikes, bikes over 30lbs, and no DH bikes. Excluded for Liability reasons. True?

In addition to their heavy weight, they have 7 to 9 inches of shock absorbing capability and extra wide tires.
The resort will continue to haul conventional mountain bikes for the general public on the Sky Chair, which by and large rides on trails and roads off-site. There has been no decision yet whether to allow them within the permit boundary on designated trails on the ski runs, which has been allowed since the start of lift transport back in the late 1980's. Team Big Bear will continue with cross country racing on the various designated roads and trails. Ive been told several things but if you have a DH bike...you know as well as they know its a DH bike and they arent throwing it on the lift! If they limited it to 30 lbs...I wouldnt be able to ride on my 34lb hardtail Hoss so weight isnt the determining factor...its subjective. I have heard 30 lbs, 35lbs, 2.5 inch tires, etc... if you are willing to ride uphills and stay on the routes...they are going to let you ride 9 out of 10 times.

You know, the funny thing is, all of the guys I ride with including my self can ride everything and every where up there on a 4" or less travel trail bike including the "off-limit" trails. Yeah you can not hit the speeds as you can on a dh bike but it can still be fun.
