Bike Shops in Amsterdam?

Hi there,

Can anyone recommend a shop in Amsterdam? I know there must be plenty... but I'm headed over there next week on business, and am looking for one that might be particularly well-suited for browsing around and maybe picking up something cycling-related that I wouldn't be able to get over here (I don't know, saddle bag, light, bell, something...). Looking for something more traditional Dutch cruiser oriented, not a racing/roadie place.

Thanks!

Dr. Hans

Ok,
first place I would head for is RIH,
more racing but they also do citybikes etc. the proprietor is a very nice
man who will be more than happy to direct you to other shops.
I would go to Zieleman (even tho Ko has retired), but then I lust after
a Zieleman above all else.
Fongers, Batavus, etc. all build citybikes. there are tons of them.
I will see if I can come up with more info and also
pass onto s70Rguy who is in Rotterdam.

Dr. Hans, there's many shops like what youré looking for in Amsterdam. All depends on where you'll be staying. If you give me an adress I'll pick some for you. Oh, first: I can't give you first hand experience (I'm a hard core roadie, he he!), second I don't live in amsterdam anymore.
But, give me an area and I'll give you some adresses you can go too.

Another way to do it, follow this link (hope it works): https://www.goudengids.nl/list.asp?go...mitButton.y=22

Great thanks to both of you for your kind assistance.

I'll be staying at the Apollolaan Meridien, which I guess is at Apollolaan 2, Amsterdam 1077. I haven't had a chance to find a map online to see quite where that is.

Thanks again in advance - I will try to figure out the yellow pages listing you sent as well!

Best wishes,
Dr. Hans

OK, that link was far too long too work.
The yellow pages site is www.goudengids.nl.
Use 'trefwoorden', choose 'f', choose 'fietsen en scooters' (scroll down a bit). In the box at the right 'waar', you enter the zipcode of your hotel: 1077. That will give you 2 results close by. If you change the zip code a bit, f.i. 1078, you'll get more results. 1078 is the Rivierenbuurt (Scheldestraat etc.), a nice area, 10-15 minute walk from the Apollolaan. 'kaart' is map, that will give you an idea of the location of the shops.
One of the shops is www.tromm.nl, pretty big I think, very wide selection of bikes and gear.

check out the flea markets all around town, esp. waterlooplein. they have cheap lights/locks/bells for sale. most of which are better (IMO) and cheaper than what i've seen here.

I hope you're enjoying it. Sorry I couldn't recommend shops in AMS.

I sure do know some good coffeeshops though
