I know this has been discussed and I've been searching, but haven't found a good answer. I live in Santa Clara/San Jose area, so it doesn't really get that cold in the morning or evenings--anyway, my question is are leg warmers too much or knee warmers not enough?

I find that most of the time knee warmers are fine in this area. If you ride to the top of Mt. Hamilton in the winter time you might want something warmer or if you're riding in the rain.

When you first start out in the morning, you'll feel chilled with just knee warmers, and this is appropriate, since when you really get moving, you'll start heating up. I've used tights when it is really cold in the mornings, only to find that I was overheating in the afternoon on my way home.

What is your route? I go from Blossom Hill and Snell to Lafayette and Central. I generally use Lincoln and Park for the majority of my commute.
