Rec-Rac, Bike rack for pickups
I've seen this bike transport system advertised in a number of magazines. Have any of you had any experience with this product?
Thanks, John K.

Yeah I actually bought the rack and the additional bike strap. Initially the wheels on my bike would walk out causing a pretty serious tilt midway through a drive. Turns out I just needed the longer bars which solved my problem, but that still involved extra cash. And while the actual rack part works great now, the addittional bike straps are pretty ghetto. They're this set of hollow plastic things that have velcro that fed through them. After 3 weeks of use the velcro strap ripped off at the seams when I was loading up a 2nd bike. Also you have to be careful where you decide to hook up additional bikes because their can be a lot of movement and tilting if you dont use solid points of contact. I'd say if you have a pick up the only reason you would need this rack is if you plan on carrying multiple bikes...or else youd just throw yours in the back, but since the additional bike attackments are so dam weak and finiky I'd have to tell you to go with something else.

I have been using the Rec Rac for about 9 months now and I am very happy with it. I like the fact that you do not have to remove the wheels to transport the bike. It is true that the bike tends to walk out towards the center of the truck. I solved that by purchasing one of those Python Lock cables. When I run it through the eyebolts attached to the Rec Rack and the front and back wheels of the bike and snug up the cable the bike is held very solid and does not move at all. It is also secure from theft.
I also bought the little plastic things for adding a second bike, but they are fairly lame. I would recommend buying a second set of Rec Racs if you will be hauling two bike on a regular basis.
